I’m not sure what to make of that to be truthful.
Defensively we were awful, but not for the whole game. We created chances, and Lloris made two outstanding saves. Mignolet surely has to be dispensed with after that - the more so when contrasted with his opposite number. Despite the negative comments he gets on these boards, I thought the midfield missed Wijnaldum. Notwithstanding Lovren’s mistake for their second, it was Milner’s inability to match Son’s pace that cost us.
If you look strictly at the stats, we did ok. Spurs had 35% possession, far fewer chances, half the passes. But then Leicester for the whole season 2 years ago had inferior stats to all the other top 6 teams.
In a way, this game was a perfect storm for us. I hope Klopp learns from it, and tries new personnel and formation. He has a difficult job and I still have faith he can salvage this season. But he has to be brave, something that for him is a strength.
