International Space Station sighting
« on: April 28, 2011, 01:16:00 pm »
Great time at the moment to see the ISS flying over.

Seen it the last couple of nights, it appears from the North West at exactly the time the NASA website says and takes a couple of minutes to fly over, quite a sight. It's cool to look up and think there's someone on that, 200 miles above your head.

Check out when it flies over here - http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/skywatch.cgi?country=United+Kingdom

Is there an easy way to discover where to look using those telescope settings other than up and slightly southwest?

ISS
Thu Apr 28/09:09 PM   78 (elevation)    32 above W   (approach) 10 above ESE (dept)

How does one know where that is without knowing about the sky
"You have to admire animals. Hamster spun round in a wheel three times bigger than him and abruptly lands on his back. Then just gets up and carries on as if nothing happened! If that was a human he'd be helicoptered to hospital, off work for 6 months have back issues for 20 years and then start legal proceedings against the wheels owner"

Saw it last night inadvertently, didn't know wtf it was and was wondering why a plane was going that fast with no flashing lights anywhere visible.  Cool to know now.

im in dublin, just a heads up that in the uk you might be able to see the shuttle launch tomorrow.

watch the launch live on nasa tv and about 18 minutes later you might see it heading straight up and maybe the booster being jettisoned.

look to the west. people better qualified than me maybe able to find out about the uk sighting possibilities?

Just seen it myself, because this thread brought it to my attention. Despite being a keen sky viewer I've never seen it before. Thanks very much.

One thing I, as well as Lance, couldn't help but be struck by as I watched that tiny little bright light whizz across the sky is that there are people on it. It amazes me.

Was quite small. Don't know why but I was expecting it to be bigger. Kind of felt like I was just watching a plane, but it was too quick to be one.

Pretty cool though, will have another look tomorrow, while others are out getting drunk and having a life.
I trust the King, but if we lose a few more on the trot now - he may have to step aside, and we have to purchase another manager in the middle of the season. If we are relegated, this could be the end of our ambitions to win any title the next 100 years.
