There is a programme on bbc 2 Scotland on sunday night at 9pm for anyone who can get the channel about the life and times of BILL SHANKLY and his career at Liverpool.

Went the premiere a few weeks ago in the philharmonic Hall in Liverpool , great film with lots of unseen footage and interviews , Ian St John gets really emotional at one point talking about shankly .If you have sky you can get bbc2 Scotland on that .

A fantastic programme and also pretty emotional especially when the pipes were played at his memorial at glenbuck and the fans including peter hooton started singing shankly,shankly.He was a great man and we will never forget him.Ynwa

Just wonderful, thank you so much ianfieldroad for starting the thread, I would have missed it otherwise.

Have got up to the bit with Ian St.John and cant wait to get home tonight to see the rest. Was interesting to hear Shanks, Jock Stein and Matt Busby all came from the same area.

I didn't become a red until 1976 but all those names are ingrained in my mind. Real heroes, men you can admire who are all humble, proud, hardworking men.

I don't care what fans of other clubs may say about their own clubs, no one has what we have at Liverpool, no one.

I found out last year that my mother in law comes from muirkirk just along from glenbuck and only reason I found that out was when she showed me a photo of shanks`s memorial.I asked how she got the pic and she said she had been down visiting family and passed it.I said ffs or words to that effect why no tell me you come from there ha ha and she goes why and I said I am a Liverpool fan and shanks is one of my heroes.I have been married to her daughter since 2002 and known the family since 1989 and I never knew she came from down that way.Eventually I will be paying a visit to the memorial when she goes down to see family.As for the documentary it was brilliant and there was some footage there that hadn't been seen before.YNWA SHANKS

Cheers mate ...........Keegan does come across very well . Loved the wooden boards at melwood and the talk of twisting n turning in training . All that reaction stuff and explosive sprinting ahead of his time I would imagine .

This was great.  I had no idea there was so much quality footage of really old football - the 1965 final looked great, but I was absolutely gobsmacked to see the 1938 final looking so good.

More importantly, I’d never understood the ‘matter of life and death’ quote until I heard it in its proper context at the end.  He’s saying *it*’s more important than football, isn’t he?  It’s almost the opposite of the throwaway line it always gets used as.

Grabbed it, tossed it on my Plex server, turned it on, then promptly fell asleep. (12 hour shifts are doing my head in) so I’ll wait and watch it tomorrow, when I finally have a break. Looking forward to it!

Btw does anyone have a download link for the documentary “Liverpool's Sound: Kop chants and their origins”? I want to stash that one as well, I do have LFCtv but I really like that on3 for keeps.

Essential viewing. As well as the Shankly stories it brought home to me again how important Keegan was to our club.

Best 90 minutes I've spent staring at a screen in ages.
