It's just a shame nothing is ready to capitalise on these fuck ups. Mastodon is presented as much more complex than it actually needs to be which probably puts off a ton of users, BlueSky still in beta, the Meta alternative is both not ready and presumably quite off-putting to a lot of people due to the facebook connection. The idea of a 'decentralised' twitter doesn't really make sense to me either, I get the allure of having lots of options so you don't end up with another monopoly, but surely the whole point of something like twitter is that everyone is in one place?
I don't really know how you even compete with something as massive as Twitter. What makes it so popular is its user base, it's got to be tough to convince the average person to move to something that has significantly fewer users and is less likely to have the information you need.
I've wondered if we maybe need some kind of hybrid solution to pop up, something that allows users to have a website-like main page or that allows reddit style communities, but with a twitter type feed fully integrated, though I don't know how easily those two things combine.
