One of Klopp’s consistent traits since becoming manager is to cut ties - kind of ruthlessly - with promising young players who fall short of the required standards. He’ll give them the opportunity but will also remove them from the picture pretty quickly. Woodburn, Wilson, Kent, Ojo, Solanke, Morton, and now Carvalho…they’ve all been taken out the firing line one way or another.
The fact Jones has been handled differently indicates how highly he’s rated and not simply a placeholder for somebody to eventually replace him.
