Tried to book my vaccination appointments online but it put me in a queue, so I'll leave it until it's a bit quieter.  I'll keep trying and just see when I can get in.  I made it this far so another day or two wont hurt.

What kind of person (the phrases I’d usually use are no longer acceptable in modern society) whimpers from one of these injections? The needle is like a hairs width and the amount of vaccine they have to inject about a rain drop!

same, I hate needles, I went white as a sheet after a blood test at 21 after having glandular fever. I had to sit in the waiting room for 15 minutes afterwards before they let me leave.

Still don't like having a blood test even now but I just look away  and it's fine

The CoVid jab was totally different, I didn't even feel it go in and was surprised when the nurse said it was all done!

That’s kind of what I was jokingly getting at. Some of those needles they use either when they are taking blood or when they put one those things in your wrist when with the valves (I had one for sedation), those are bloody huge.

Exactly mate.  I've had so many blood tests over the past ten years - not to mention needles for tooth fillings and extractions - that I doubt this will bother me very much!

Well booking was fun.  Not.

Couldn't book both jabs at the same centre.  The nearest centre to me for the first jab is in fucking Huyton, right by where I used to live. I hate that place, it's the scene of a lot of childhood trauma for me, but I have to bite the bullet I guess.

Going to fucking Huyton for my first dose is bad enough, but for my second dose the next nearest site is listed as fucking Aintree.  I live in Dingle ffs!

That’s kind of what I was jokingly getting at. Some of those needles they use either when they are taking blood or when they put one those things in your wrist when with the valves (I had one for sedation), those are bloody huge.

A lot depends on if its a doctor or a nurse doing it - a nurse can do all of the huge ones without you feeling it, a doctor would make the covid jab feel like a knitting needle. I've had 3 gastroscopys and each time I told them I didn't want sedating, but they insisted. The one time a doctor did it I had a hand like a pin cushion as he chased the vein all around my hand and it went black.

That's appalling. Just wish all care home staff would get vaccinated - should be mandated imo. Why aren't we shutting the borders so these variants can't spread ?

I always thought I was afraid of needles until I spent a week in hospital last month. Over the course of the week I had about 25 needles in me from blood tests, cannulas, anti clotting injections and didn't really feel a thing. The fella in the bed next to me was a right wimp, wouldn't even put the anti-embolism stockings on!

6 of the 10 residents had previously had at least one dose. 1 of the 13 staff had previously had at least one dose.

Think this will speed up any plans to require care home staff to be vaccinated.

Well, exactly ! The so-called 'red list' is a joke - the Brazilian variant is rampant in, well, Brazil and is killing people in the thousands there so naturally on the red list. South Africa is also rightly on the red list. Yet, in France where case numbers are exploding, a small but significant proportion of cases are of these two variants.....and France is not on the red list ffs !

It’s slightly concerning for the care homes in that I can see residents and their staff putting pressure of them to ensure staff are vaccinated (I certainly would be if it was one of my grandparents in a home) but then the owners are on shaky legal ground if they try and compel staff to get vaccinated.

You've missed out the probe up the urethra. You'd have the quad rather than the treble then.

To be fair, other then once up the nose the other 5 have all been in relation to the condition that got me classed as clinically vulnerable and therefore vaccinated so not all bad I guess (and as far as things that class you as vulnerable, it’s an incredibly tame condition)

I’ll stick to the hat trick and leave it there, I can’t even imagine how unpleasant a camera up the urethra is.

My 29 yo friend who has asthma lives 10 minutes up the road. She got hers at Princes Park.

I can only assume a glut of applications for local centres meant there was nowhere else closer for me.

I can get a train to the racecourse and I grew up in Huyton so know my way around. It's inconvenient, but not excessively so. I just hate visiting Huyton.

Anyway, I'm impressed that they manage to use every dose of vaccine every day...

It's not about different rules or using every dose of vaccine everyday it is managed much more closely than that. Where I work we start the day by having a vial of vaccine per person vaccinating, then around 2 we start sharing between two, then around 4 we start sharing between our whole work area. As the day goes on, and the number of people get less and less then work areas are closed down so less vials are opened. A vial only gets brought out of fridge/freezer it's in when another has been used up so that there is no wastage. If people don't show up then you have to get rid of what's left otherwise it's wasted, that's only happened once with us and we ran down to the film set that was on the same site and got two people from there as close to 50 as possible.

Well, after having very few side effects from covid, let’s see if the vaccine does for me.

I’ve an unusual immune system, I had one chicken pock, I very seldom get colds in any bad way, nearly never get the flu and tweaked the nose of coronavirus .  I seem quite resistant to lots of things.

Mind you, my mum genuinely doesn’t really get colds. She can only remember having 2 or 3.

Interesting about feeling worse after it. I was obviously under the similar, if wrong, impression as filo there, though did see some of the reports from some countries about staffing issues for a few weeks as they got their medical staff sorted.

I get the impression with the adenovrus vectors its more a case that people tend to have a lower reaction than the first than a particularly reliable rule.

The messenger RNA reactions seem more reliable though in that the second is often worse than the first
