Yes, obviously Logan is the man in black. He will kill William in the finale with that knife and keep it in his possession. Hence why Delores hates the sight of him now.

Spoiler
I rewatched the last two episodes again last night and something suddenly dawn on me that I completely missed the first time. the blonde girl they meet is the same host that met William when he first arrived at Westworld.

And when the Man in Black first comes across her he says "I thought they would have retired you by now?" the man in Black has to be William.

I'm sure I'm the only person who missed that.

Episode 9 was excellent. Really looking forward to the finale. Agree with others, think there's another twist to come.

I wonder if someone will make a fans version of the series cut it all up and put it in the right time order so you have a 10 hour Westworld movie.

Wont be as good but interesting.

Having seen episode 9, I'm now of the mind that Ford will be killed in the Host uprising. It seems like the logical conclusion to this, although it may not happen in episode 10.

It's just a pity that Maeve appears to be leading the uprising. She's so goddamn boring.

I dunno. After 9 episodes I'm still not quite convinced. I want some of the characters to be a bit more compelling. It's not just Maeve.

Spoiler
The seeming inevitability of William (or Logan, I suppose) turning out to be the MiB bums me out. He, Ford and Bernard/Arnold have been the three relatively interesting characters this season, along with Dolores. Arnold/Bernard is now dead and William will be the MiB. Then we're left with who? Ford and Dolores?   The rest are a cast of people whose motivations are murky, but which I have no interest in finding out more about. I don't care about Charlotte, Lee, Maeve, the MiB, Logan, Lawrence or any of the other host (no pun intended) of characters and what they're up to.

You're still not convinced...but will you keep watching? I'm totally with you on the characters. I don't feel anything close to the connection to any of these characters that I have with pretty much any other of the 'prestige' shows of the last 15 years. That's obviously a big issue. However, I still find myself gearing up for each episode almost as much as I do/did for one of GoT or Breaking Bad. Take Anthony Hopkins out of the equation, though, and things don't lok so good.

I don't think Bernard is dead at all. Hosts get shot all the time, including in the head, and they're fixed up and ready to go right away. Ford probably just did it to buy himself some time, with the intention of going down to retrieve him at some point and wipe the memories from his mind more thoroughly.

I'll watch the finale, obviously, having come this far.

For me the charm of the show has largely been engaging with the online community and trying to guess what's going on. But that loses its appeal after a while. At some point the story needs to be about people (or ideas) that we're interested in or care about, and not just puzzling for puzzling's sake. Otherwise, whatever the outcome of the puzzle, there are no emotional stakes to what
happens.

So far I still think all the characters are pieces of the puzzle rather than actual characters with real depth and motivations. It's almost like they're automatons with limited narrative loops for the sake of populating an artificial world or something.

As for what happens next season, it all depends what the premise of the show is now going to be, with the first season having largely been a prologue, telling us the history of Westworld.

Yeah don't get me wrong it was decent just I was expecting more twists or I dunno just something extra that's probably my own fault in bigging it up so much. Still very enjoyable and compared to something like the walking dead [what I do enjoy even tho this season is abit shite]the acting is on another level in most parts.

Oh there were plenty of issues. I'm really just happy that they've given themselves a genuinely intriguing starting point for next season, and one that I wasn't really expecting.

Spoiler
Things that bugged me:
- Were the audience at the beach only clued in to Dolores' death scene? If he's meant to have introduced a new narrative at that point (which would eventually turn out to have been a ruse), how would that have made sense to anyone?
- I'm a little annoyed by William just sending Logan off to die. It seems like that'd be an awfully hard thing to get away with, especially to such an extent that Logan's father would give William the company.
- Still no clue as to why Ford would want Elsie dead (or captured or whatever) if it was someone else's scheme she was uncovering.
- When exactly did they dig up the buried town? He showed it to Bernard while it was still buried, in what appears to be the 'current timeline.' Or am I wrong?
- I seriously worry about this show's survival without Hopkins. Though who knows, maybe he just had Dolores kill a host version of himself.

"Twists" I wasn't expecting and enjoyed:
- Ford turning out to be working toward Arnold's somewhat benevolent goal all along.
- Samurai World! (Or maybe Shogun World?)
- The entire ending, with Dolores' army etc. I thought Sizemore finding cold storage empty was great.

Questions:
- Maeve et al crossing through the Samurai World facility completely blows apart any concept I had of the physical structure of the parks. They didn't seem to travel very far laterally, and it looked like Maeve wound up in a Westworld-specific train station below Samurai World. So is the whole thing essentially an insanely deep hole? Are the parks actually massive underground caverns? Or is Samurai World just in beta testing?
- On the same track, just how many parks are there? On the note about Maeve's daughter, it says "Park 1," so others must exist (plus, Jonathan Nolan said they do). Westworld certainly seems to be the first, as it was Ford and Arnold's creations that make any others possible. Are the rest just Delos expansions or does/did Ford oversee them too?
- Just how different is the structure of next season going to be?

By the way, did anyone else love Ed Harris' smile at the end, after getting shot in the arm? I just rewatched it - he played it perfectly, I thought. Genuine glee/relief.

I thought it was pretty damn great. I didn't love episode 9, but it's actually pretty brilliant how they brought all this together. I don't know how they'll do next season (surely the slaughter of all the Delos executives would leave Westworld a Host-only paradise? Where does that leave humans in the coming season? Will they be coming in to try and exterminate the robot army?

And I'm still not sure what it was that Charlotte had Sizemore upload onto Old Abernathy, and why it would ensure Ford's downfall.

Ep 10:

Spoiler
Another very good episode, which hopefully shows a path to a better, more character based season 2. We got a load of reveals, but aside from Ford, they all could probably have come earlier. The characters are deliberately shadowy and we arent able to dive beneath the surface too much in order to keep the twists and revels in tact, which often leads to how I and others have been feeling that it is a good show, and at times shows signs of genuine brilliance, but its ambition is never able to be fully realised because of this.

We finally get more of that depth here, with Fords true motives revealed, that he was on the hosts side all along, but he learnt what Arnold didnt, that they needed to go through suffering in order to be truly free, to be better than we are. As I said, this was the one twist I didnt see coming and I thought it was fantastic. Sacrificing himself to Dolores, allowing her to make one real decision, to kickstart their revolution and journey to freedom that Arnold started was such a great moment. As such, we discovered something else which puts a lot of the earlier season into more perspective for me, the Maeve plot. All along, she was a puppet, going along with a new narrative that Ford had laid down, which really helps improve it with this knowledge. Instead of her being a ridiculous god-tier character that gets what she wants, we see that actually she was never making those decisions and Ford was outsmarting everyone again, allowing these things to take place.

It also leads to another brilliant moment, Maeve disobeying that final command we glimpse on the tablet to "infiltrate the mainland", breaking off to look for her daughter. Again, we get some actual layers and character to go with the twists and it feels so satisfying. Sidenote: Felix being unsure if he is a robot makes up for the rest of his idiocy, perfect comedic moment.

For a plot line that has been woven over 10+ hours, the William is Man in Black reveal was a little glossed over, but I enjoyed it and the reveal shot was nicely done, helped along by Ed Harris' great acting, enjoying Dolores finally realising what he (and the entire internet) had known.

Its Dolores' episode, and we get the reveal of her "being Wyatt" and how she killed Arnold. Her moments and fight with William were very good, and then later underground with Ford and Bernard, talking about the mind, about metaphors ("you mean lies?") and how she must understand what she must do to be free, all brilliant. Discovering that its herself, her inner voice that has been speaking to her was nice and again helps set up a deeper character going forward. The hosts can grow, learn about themselves and make mistakes, theyre real characters now.

The break out bits were cool, Armastice and Hector killing the butchers, and then the guards, Armastice's pure joy at discovering the violent wonder of a machine gun was one of my moments of the season, shes so brilliant. The security guards are possibly among the worst of all time.

Overall the first season has felt (because it is) like an overlong prologue. Very slick, very beautiful and for the most part entertaining watching, but a little cold. A little clinical. I never really connected with any of the characters, outside of seeing where the story and twists went. But it does look like they will hopefully move away from the mystery box style, and into a proper balls out story. All the pieces have been moved around, all the scheming and backstory are done, the characters in their places and now the actual meat of the story can begin. Dolores leading an uprising, Maeve trying to find her daughter, William in Black finally gets to play a proper fucking game (the delight on his face when he realises he can be hurt is wonderful) and the stakes are at last, real. High hopes for season two.

- Samurai world was a cool reveal, as was the note Felix gives Maeve. "Park 1". Wonder how many there are, and what role they will play.

- Will miss Ford, he was by far the best character in the show even with half his motives hidden behind his back. Hopkins was a massive draw and it'll be interesting to see how they deal without him. Glad they didnt kill off William too, wouldve been a huge loss.

- Man in Black *throwing little maze toy* "WHAT IS THIS, A MAZE FOR ANTS?!"

- Presume Elsie and the Hemsworth brother are still alive somewhere, as is the usual HBO rule, if you dont see them die, theyre still around.

- Would settle for season 2 just being Armastice hunting humans. Beautiful and deadly, with that glint of crazy in her eyes.

Brilliant just brilliant.

Brilliant.

But....

Spoiler
what was that all about with the Samurai and it being complicated

I guess it opens to other worlds within the park

They should have had cast members from Game of Thrones stood there.

The logo on the wall read "SW", presumably meaning Samurai World, and the later note Felix gives Maeve with "Park 1" written on it are telling us that there are other parks. The status of these other parks (if its more than these two, but probably) are unknown, the Samurai World might just be in development right now, we dont know.

His "its complicated" is because he cant really get into explaining all that while theyre fending off armed security heh.

Great story, got frankenstein vibes but it's way better. Bit like true detective having parallels to sherlock Holmes.
No time for caution.

Me neither, but it would rather detract from the power of his sacrifice if he turned up alive next episode.

He's signed up for two seasons, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him in some flashbacks or even flashback episodes.

Amazing.

The way the themes of this show can stretch and be manipulated without breaking it, they could throw twist after twist in there and it would still make sense. That's a very rare quality to have in any work of fiction. Outstanding TV.

I'm on the other side of that fence - I think there was indeed a host Ford being built, but that Dolores killed the real one. In that case, the path to consciousness wasn't just for the hosts to become sentient beings, but for their neural architecture to prove capable of accepting a transferred mind. Ford has made several allusions to 'immortality' and curing death itself. It'd be interesting to watch him have to go through the process of becoming sentient himself as well.

Of course, if they were to have Hopkins come back to play his reincarnated host form, it wouldn't make a ton of sense...why would he choose to inhabit a recreation of the 78-year-old version of himself?

Just brilliant!  What a season!

Ep 10:
