Has it already been on the uk?

I like the borderline porn comment. Think I'll watch it with the missus

Not sure about the UK, season has completed here in the US

They have the occasional full front shot and the sex scenes can be quite graphic.

This may have spoilers, upon reflection.

So, I watched the first episode back when it was and it was so bad, I fucked it off. But for some reason on Friday, I looked what was on my DVR, saw Spartacus and started watching. Sometimes you want filet mignon, but at others a greasy hamburger hits the spot. It took me three days to watch the remaining 12 episodes, although granted, I watched while doing other things. They toned down the stupid effects during fights after the first one, luckily. They also set up the next season quite nicely and were more or less historically accurate, although there isn't much known about Spartacus before the rebellion. And fair fucks to them, not many shows would off half the cast in a single episode, but it had to be done, if they want to keep going and stick to history. The disappointing thing is that Xena's simmering lesbian relationship with the blond with the bad nose job is no more. I was looking forward to it :(

As I said, I didn't watch the first one again, despite not really remembering it. But after I watched the final episode last night I stuck it on (hence how I know it's below par of the rest, which is saying something). Then I watched the second. Now I'm watching the fourth one. Greasy burger time for me again.

Watched the first episode, found it entertaining and hilarious but probably not the way they quite meant. The CGI meant that most "bloody" moments were nowhere near gruesome (hard to when it looks like ketchup) but there one or two moments when it was bloody and unnecessary. The sexual bits felt like they were put in there purely for wanting sexual bits. The dialog was pretty poor, didn't take to Spartacus, while he and Sura didn't gel on screen (not helped by her dramatic pauses then seeming to change subject). Spent most of it joking about and laughing at things on screen.

There are some positives from the episode. Lentulus Batiatus and Lucretia (hopefully don't do that hairdo with her again) did well in smallish role they had, I liked Gaius Claudius Glaber and loved his relationship with Ilithyia.

Will certainly watch this weeks episode and knowing me, the whole series. Not sure if I actually want it to get better

It does get better, or possibly I just got used to how bad the acting and script are. They also ease off on the CGI spurts of blood.

As long as you approach it as a camp romp that's closer to "Carry On Cleo" than "I, Claudius", it's absolutely brilliant fun.

Indeed it seems to do so.

Watched... episode 6 I think last weekend. Got a lot better in episode 3 and has generally managed to stay at a decent level thanks to more character depth, better writing (enjoyed some of the twists) and scripts, turning down the gore and better acting. There are a lot worse ways to spend an hour of my life certainly

Still hate Spartacus himself

Brilliant isn't it - seen them all and it is brilliant viewing

the CGI is shit and the story is predictable but the women are so fit and the violence so graphic it just seems to make no difference how shit the acting may or may not be

spartacus' wife is extremely good looking as well not that the other women aren't

Finished the series last night. Once it got over the dreadful but hilarious first episode, the boring second episode and got to the third, which set the standard, it was quite a good series. Not brilliant by any means but it had a lot going for it once it settled down, 7/10. The fight scenes were good and generally avoided being too gory, good and multiple story-lines tending to go on, acting that improved a lot so it wasn't just John Hannah holding the show together. Credit to the writers for being willing to take a brave and unexpected changes, to kill off characters and usually killing them to good effect in terms of story and emotions, lots of intresting twists. I liked a lot of the characters: Batiatus, Lucretia, Crixus, Ashur, Ilithyia, Glaber, Varro, Barca, Naevia, Aurelia, Pietros, Solonius, Titus and his family

The big flaw for me was that I disliked Spartacus. Arrogant, a bit of an idiot, a jerk at times, I didn't find much likeable about him. Wasn't fond of Sura, beyond one flashback. Credit to the rest I guess for making up for that flaw

The series peaked in episode 9, a fantastic episode with an excellent ending that offered so much promise. If it helps, it was the one with the golden masks. Was not going to hit the episode heights again but was awfully disappointed that, after a wonderful twist ending to it, they wasted the potential it gave them. They could have probably finished the series one or two episodes earlier then they did and gone down a different path for awhile, time will tell if they made the right choice. Thought ending episode didn't really get going till late on but once it did, was a good way to end the series, some moments didn't quite click but others were very good

Look forward to the prequel

There making a prequel because Andy Whitfield's (Spartacus) been getting treatment for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Don't think production starts till later in the year, then they're making Season 2.

I think everyone's been a little harsh about this.  I thought it was brilliant and it was obvious that it would take a while to build up the characters and storyline.

I loved Spartacus despite his obvious flaws but was disappointed not to see Mira getting a proper good rogering! :D

Couldnt agree more this was a superb series.

Prequel write up on imdb is:
Dustin Clare, a virtual unknown in the U.S., but a popular TV actor in his native Australia, has landed the lead in Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Starz’s six-part prequel to hit series Spartacus: Blood and Sand. Jaime Murray and Marisa Ramirez are set to co-star in the prequel, which focuses on the House of Batiatus in its pre-Spartacus days and chronicles the rise of Gannicus (Clare), the first gladiator to become Champion of Capua.

Returning to reprise their roles from Spartacus: Blood and Sand are Lucy Lawless (Lucretia), John Hannah (Batiatus), Peter Mensah (Oenomaus) and Manu Bennett (Crixus). Murray, repped by Gersh and Luber Rocklin, will play Gaia, Lucretia’s (Lawless) friend and a Capua social climber. Ramirez will play a beautiful slave girl with complicated relationships. Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield will appear briefly in the prequel, which is slated to begin production in August in New Zealand for a January premiere on Starz.

Whitfield, who plays the title character of Spartacus, will then rejoin the show in season two, which is set to begin production later this year.

A little more info, including the release month.

Dustin Clare Leads "Spartacus" Prequel
19 July 2010 5:02 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

Aussie hunk Dustin Clare ("McLeod's Daughters," "Underbelly," "Satisfaction") has scored the major new role in "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena", the upcoming prequel to the recent first season of "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" reports The Live Feed.

In the six episode prequel, Batiatus (John Hannah) is not yet the head of his family or of the gladiator training school.

Clare plays Gannicus, the lead gladiator in the Ludus. However the House of Batiatus hasn't earned social respect or the right for its gladiators to fight in championship bouts as yet. Gannicus struggles to turn around the House's luck.

Joining him will be Jaime Murray ("Dexter," "Warehouse 13," "Hustle") as a Capua social climber and Marisa Ramirez ("General Hospital") as a slave girl. As previously reported, Spartacus himself Andy Whitfield will make a brief appearance towards the end of the prequel series.

Production on the series kicks off next month for airing in January. »

Sad news my friends :(

Quote
Spartacus Star Andy Whitfield Battles Cancer Recurrence

TV's Spartacus: Blood and Sand star Andy Whitfield will not be returning to the Starz series for a second season, due to a recurrence of cancer that will require aggressive treatment, the network has announced.

"It's with a deep sense of disappointment that I must step aside from such an exceptional project as Spartacus and all the wonderful people involved," Whitfield, 36, said in a statement. "It seems that it is time for myself and my family to embark on another extraordinary journey."

In March of this year it was reported that Whitfield, born in Wales and a resident of Australia, had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

"Our hearts and prayers are with Andy and his family during this difficult time," said Starz President and CEO Chris Albrecht. "Andy is not only an incredible actor whose portrayal of Spartacus made an indelible impression on Starz audiences, he is also an amazing human being whose courage, strength and grace in the face of adversity have inspired all of us."

Wish him all the best, wonder what happens now...
