When Doves Cry - Prince
A Tory, a worker and an immigrant are sat round a table. There's a plate of 10 biscuits in the middle. The Tory takes 9 then turns to the worker and says "that immigrant is trying to steal your biscuit"

Always a big regret in never taking the opportunity back then to see them live. I think many of those who did swear they never saw any better than the Faces at their swaggering best.

I saw them late 73 but by then they were past their absolute best. Ronnie Lane had left to be replaced by the Japanese guy (who's name escapes me) and by then they were being promoted as Rod Stewart and the Faces, because Rod's solo career was just taking off. They were good, but that swagger you talk of seemed a little forced. Wish I'd seen them a year or so earlier.

Not really a rock intro, but the start of I Feel Fine by the Beatles was a brilliant intro with the feedback and opening riff.

Basically ripped off, feedback and all, by the Stone Roses, for a great tune of theirs . .. Waterfall:

Not really a rock intro, but the start of I Feel Fine by the Beatles was a brilliant intro with the feedback and opening riff.
Our youngest nephew is 18 and he’s bought himself a really nice record player, amp and speakers and started collecting original Beatles records (helped by a generous donation of them from his nan). He said to me at the weekend when we were round, “Listen to this” and stuck on an original 7’’ pressing of I Feel Fine and turned it up to 11. Wow. I mean we all know it, it’s so familiar (and has probably been a regular ear worm since Klopp’s song). But it was almost like listening to a new tune with the band in the room. Perfection. And that intro as you say Terry. Fuck me. Mind blowing. We both sat there grinning like idiots.

Welcome Home - Coheed and Cambria has one of my favourite intros of any song (especially when you hear it live)

https://youtu.be/n0H3RlaQVrM?si=_30UzSHfVYdpf5i9

Going the opposite direction - what about great outros?

Bit of a rogue shout but one of my favourites is a Limp Bizkit track called Douchebag which has possibly the most Bizkit at their worst chorus but then magically finishes with an out of nowhere jazz style bit (about 3 mins 20 into it)

Class tune anyway and 100% agreed about the intro

Really cool but strange overlapping between the various instruments and builds really nicely into the main song

Wonder if that's The Old Grey Whistle Test performance you refer to?   That was great jammin'.

Johnny Winter and his band did something similar on TOGWT with an absolute beast of a huge extended cover version of Jumpin' Jack Flash.   Check it out on YT, it's amazingly good.

Not bad.

Randy Hobbs was good, but Jon Paris was (and is) a fucking monster.

Check this out, especially around 7 mins.  Dr. John on keyboards.

Jon is a consummate guitarist with his own band and would only ever played bass for Johnny Winter. (Although he was always on harp for Steely Dan)

Although I did make him an offer he refused.   :(

Judge for yourself
