This sort of thread tells a lot about the sort of people we spend time with on RAWK. A pleasing number of normal people who have marmite. And then a smaller but still decent number of potential serial killers who have monstrosities like peanut butter and pickle, or mackerel paste

I've recently Switched 100% to Crumpets  I feel so much better for it, just not worth compromising any more.

Is it unheard of? I had it as a kid a bit (not every day!), but if my parents had it then it must be normal. They’re not weirdos...Am i the only one?

I dont eat toast as there is such a thing as real bread in this world. On real bread I’d spread some butter and apricot jam or if feeling like savory then some pate.

I used to love syrup on toast when I was a kid.

My mother would buy it for Pancake Day and once that was over she'd dollop it on our toast every morning to use it up.

Hardly ever have either nowadays. If I get into having regular toast and butter I pile the weight on.

Does no-one find that if they had toast and butter (and/or topping) in the morning that they just crave sugar for the rest of the day?

If I have white bread toasted with butter for breakfast, I will be eating biscuits by lunchtime. So I just try and avoid it and it kills!!

Saturday morning my Husband will go to the bakery and get a fresh loaf - some weeks I’ll cave and have some, Others I can stay away from it. I just find white bread lethal for me.

Actually another heart attack in a jar contender at the moment is that lotus spread. Although I barely ever have it, the kids are like locusts all over that. Proper crack alternative!

I would put a little between 2 Biscoff biscuits for a treat with a cup of tea in the evening! I acquired a jar of Tiptree salted caramel spread and I whacked that between 2 Biscoff biscuits - also sensational.

Try to switch to wholemeal bread if you can, white bread is so processed you get what you describe.

I love salted caramel but never tried it as a spread. Might give that a go. Sounds delicious

must have been a Liverpool 70s thing. As a kid I would have the same thing. Tate and Lyle syrup from the tin with the dead lion on the front on toast and in ready brek (then go to a school with a radioactive glow for the rest of the morning).

Oh my I've never heard of this spread. I was scared to google it just now it sounded like a Karma Sutra position. Definitely in the market now - I just got a box of Biscoffs from Costco last week, already caned half of them (I keep them secret from the kids).

Pease stop this abomination now!
The correct way of doing cheese on toast is to toast the bread first.
Then put the cheese on the toast, making sure the entire surface is covered, them back under the grill to melt the cheese.
You simply can't only have one side of the bread toasted

I was only thinking about this when I was making cheese on toast on Friday. I remember cafe's where if you got beans on toast they only toasted one side of the bread 

When I worked in one of our Hire branches in Aintree, we used to use the heaters we hired out to heat the Branch, we found out one of these ceramic heaters, laid on its back, was great for cooking bacon on.

All I would say is to add sausage, egg, beans, bacon, mushrooms, and tomatoes on top of that and you have the perfect topping.
