He’s consistently producing 8/10 performances or better for a while now. Great player.

Well, he had more touches (77) than anyone among the front six and completed more passes as well. Led the team in passes into the final that third (11), tackles won (3), duels won (8 )and ball recoveries (13). I would say he was very involved all round.

He didn't really dictate play though.

We were at our best when Macca was at his best. That didn't happen often enough for me. Usually, he has an incredible ability to dictate the tempo of a game. I am not sure you can do that against United though. They are such a dysfunctional team. One minute you have them on the floor beating the shit out of them the next they score a goal from nowhere.

They absolutely can be controlled most of the time. Effectively it comes down to whether you can punish them enough.

Unlike you to move the goalposts when your argument is debunked.

How is it moving the goalposts.

For me the game started off with United on top. Macca was then excellent for a good thirty five minutes where he controlled the game. We then lost that control for most of the second half. For me the likelihood is that a lot of Macca's contributions would have been during that first half when he was running the game.

It isn't a criticism just an observation of how United play. They wanted chaos we wanted control.

We have to be able to control that though? Otherwise we get dragged down levels far too often.

I think it is the opposite, more a case of United raising their game when the crowd got involved. We weathered the initial storm and then Macca ran the game right up until we gifted them a goal. All of a sudden they were flying into challenges and couldn't we really grab back control.

I think if we had been able to get Macca on the ball more second half then we would have won. We just became too frantic and the game became chaotic.

Going forward in order to achieve balance as close to ideal as possible we'll simply have to surround him with somebody extremely athletic. I don't know if we have that player right now but I suspect Endo-Mac partnership won't be ideal for us going for big prizes in the coming years.

When you look at some of the teams we are competing against we're talking about the most athletic teams imaginable and we'll have no choice but to try to match that.

A bad touch can happen to anyone, it's a freak occurence. More concerning that he got absolutely legged about all game long by the Villa midfielders/forwards.

He's slow - you need to adjust for it, whether it's the players, or the set-up. Basketball games take him out of it completely. Mac, Endo and Elliott is probably the slowest, weakest midfield you'll see fielded in the league this week.

Shouldn't have been put back into the 6 late in the game when the pressure is increasing and he is knackered. Not excusing the touch but he won't be tracking runners at the same level at that point in the game.

He's been one of the stars of the season. Let's cut him some slack. He's definitely not the long term solution to defensive midfield but you'd have the be a right miserable git to criticise the bloke.,

One of my favorite players but never a 6.

Gets dribbled past way too much. Also we'll need legs around him next season.

Alexis Mac Allister has been dribbled past 66 times in the Premier League this season (4 times against Aston Villa), more than any other Liverpool player in a single campaign across the last eight seasons.

He's not a defensive player. Nor was he signed to be.

He's an excellent footballer, and a good signing, but it is yet another slow as fuck midfielder at the club. He needs the legs around him and an athletic DM which he had at Brighton in Caicedo.

We need an athletic DM signed.

Constantly moving Mac back there is unfair as its not his game. It's a specialist role.

Think in this case Jurgen's positivity works against him as he is far too optimistic putting Mac in the 6.

It’s a shame to see him as a 6. He’s perfectly capable there, but its just a waste.
