every captain of every team playing professional football needs to make this point at every opportunity.

the big problem with the players' argument is that time is often being added on because teams play shithouse timewasting for 90 minutes.  refs should be told to use yellows for that a lot more often, and not just in the last 5 minutes of the game.

a couple of sendings off after 2 yellows might start getting attention.

It shows you how corrupt referees are. Book a goalkeeper in the last 5 minutes of a game for timewasting but not in the first 5 and yes ive seen it happen. The rules are either the rules or they are not. Also goalkeepers who make an easy save and then go to ground should be an automatic yellow card no matter when it happens. It's pathetic and ruins the game.
Soccer - let's face it, its not really about a game of ball anymore is it?

yep.

the other big thing is players refusing to leave the pitch for treatment.  just get them on a stretcher every time and get the game going.  but if they take the stretcher, they have to stay off for minimum 5 minutes.

Jesus Varane has declared war on the FA and the PMGOL..

Raphaël Varane
@raphaelvarane
We had a meeting last week with the FA. They recommended from the referees new decisions and rules.

From the managers and players, we have shared our concerns for many years now that there are too many games, the schedule is overcrowded, and it’s at a dangerous level for players physical and mental well-being.

Despite our previous feedbacks, they have now recommended for next season: longer games, more intensity, and less emotions to be shown by players. We just want to be in good condition on the pitch to give 100% to our club and fans. Why are our opinions not being heard?

If this refers to the additional, more representative added time that has been trialed and is being introduced, it should be noted by all those loudly demanding a match clock that is stopped regularly during the game whenever there is timewasting etc. Fans are majority in favour of such a thing, if you go by comments on RAWK, but as I've pointed out during those discussions, players and managers usually aren't.

Not sure that any of the above necessarily implies corruption. Cowardice alone would account for most of it. #Occam.

At the risk of derailing the thread just enforce the 6 second rule from the moment the ball is in the goalkeeper's hands and there won't be time to roll on the floor...

Surely there are no more games or worse scheduling this season than last? Sounds like Varane complaining now because the referees are not going to allow teams to shithouse their way to 90 mins. Says enough about United's tactics going into the next season.

Good man Varane.
Hope more players and managers chip in. Fuck the FA, and UEFA/FIFA as well. They are making the game worse every year. Give us ref audio you twats.

I disagree.
These new rules are being brought in because of the players themselves. Stop fannying around the floor because an opponent was within 10 feet of you and there will be no time added for you fannying around the floor.
I completely agree with the crackdown on dissent too. Players are in general a bunch of entitled wankers and have respect for no one or nothing except themselves and their bank balance. Don't be a c*nt to the ref or kick the ball away in anger and you won't get booked.

Not sure what the problem is to be honest.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Complaining about this and equating it to the issue around too many games etc is muddying the waters. There are clearly issues that need sorting out which Jurgen has been laughed at for suggesting in the past re. the footballing schedule and burnout etc, but suggesting that a ref adding on time because your mates have been taking the piss for 90 mins is part of the same problem is not helpful to that cause.

Totally with you. I'm not at all surprised this has come from a Man United player though, above any other team they have always routinely sought to pressurise the refs through games, it's part of the entire culture of the club from the "fergie time" days. If, and that's a big if, the refs enforce the new dissent rule as stated then our friends in Manchester may have a tricky start to the season.

As a player I feel very privileged to do the job I love every day but I feel these changes are damaging our game. We want to be at our maximum level, the best we can be and put on amazing performances for fans to celebrate every week.

I believe it is important that we, players and managers, highlight these important issues as we want to protect the game we love and give the fans our best.

Fair play but that will backfire.

Other than the extra minutes he’ll be fine. He plays for Man United so he’ll be fine on all the other new “changes”.

I like it when a goalkeeper keeps wasting time so the referee blows his whistle, walks over and has a chat with them, wasting even more time in the process.

I am confused. The game is more intense yes, but the schedule has not really changed that much, right? There used to be 24 teams in the top division and the cups, besides Europe, are largely the same. If you go all the way in Europe you are look at 4 to 6 matches vs what there was in the first division days? Are squads smaller?

International is another matter. That is all kinds of stupid, but that is not on the leagues'. That is more on the associations and confederations.

Well clearly it is, but even if we take that line, didn't Van Gaal after he left (think it was him) say that Man Utd are not really a football team or club, the players and coaches are just a fig leaf for Man Utd PLC the mega-corporation.

But you are spot on, Abu Dhabi deserve no credit, even at the expense of Man Utd, who are and always will be Manchester’s biggest team.

It shows you how corrupt referees are. Book a goalkeeper in the last 5 minutes of a game for timewasting but not in the first 5 and yes ive seen it happen.
