Could it just be that Brighton were in control of the game you're thinking of because their opposition were utter shite?
Which team would that be?  :-\

Wasn't actually thinking of anything specific, I just don't think Brighton are as good as everyone shouts about

Brighton mate was saying every time they’ve lost under De Zerbi they’ve won their following game. So that’s got to change.

At least two of these goals should’ve been disallowed

I agree with you now I've just seen the replay of the foul. Brighton awful though.

Awful nice of Brighton to get their annual horror show out of the way just a week before we go there.

Without Mac Allister and Caicedo in midfield, they have less control of the play. Salah, Nunez and Diaz will tear them apart on the counter attack ...

Yeah somehow probably a fair result despite the typical VAR incompetence

The weird thing is they started the game much better, but Villa have managed to counter that by winning the ball higher up and Brighton are then so open. I still think if Brighton get an early goal, they will fancy their chances. But it's game over if Villa score again.

There is a player behind the goal, which should be counted as on field. Why did they not spot that straight away?

Wow, some start for Villa. They're another side similar to Brighton in a sense who can put great wins together like this but lose games they shouldn't. Life of a mid table side I guess.

Brighton will concede plenty this season as seen so far in the league and Europe. Next week is a huge opportunity to put those defeats last season there well behind us. The midfield is obviously not as good but that's not a back 5 who'll be able to keep too many clean sheets IMO.

How many clean sheets have we kept this season? ;D

It wouldn't have been given though if the player was offside right?

If Fati had been deemed offside, could it have then been pulled back for the foul on Joao Pedro that occurred just before Fati put it in and Brighton awarded a penalty?

That's correct, if there's a defender behind the goalkeeper, then the goalie becomes the player that determines where the offside line is drawn.

No card for the Villa player says it all - this ref has given Brighton nothing and, frankly, has yet to get a single meaningful decision correct. Should be nowhere near the prem

He didn’t book the Villa player there?  that’s weird. I know Ansu Fati provoked and deserved the yellow, but his reaction was a booking too.

It's entirely in keeping with how the ref has controlled this game. They have played well Villa, but they have had so many decisions go there way as well.
