Martin Broughton
« on: November 27, 2011, 01:27:42 pm »
Just bumped into our man Martin Broughton! He's up here for the game today, sporting a Liverpool tie and scarf. If everyone going could chant his name for a bit, that'd be a nice gesture i think, he did us all a huge favour and spoke highly of the fans. Legend in my book.
"My idea was to build Liverpool into a bastion of invincibility. Napoleon had that idea and he conquered the bloody world! And that's what I wanted; for Liverpool to be untouchable. My idea was to build Liverpool up and up and up until eventually everyone would have to submit and give in."

No no, he was with Purslow too, who I don't think should even show his face... I'm not just name dropping like. I just thought that anyone who wanted to show their appreciation could today as we know he's there :)

Can't see why people have an issue with this.

Along with Ian Ayre he fought the good fight and helped rid us of the cancers.

Never heard any player or lfc staff member say a bad word about him....unlike Cecil.

Think he deserves recognition for what he achieved

My main gripe is he let Cecil get on with what he was doing

he got his recognition by the way of a nice pay check/finders fee. you'll never catch me chanting his name anyway

What was Broughton supposed to do about Cecil?? Take matters into his own hands? He couldnt do that.

Yeah he probably did get a lot of money but he fought for this club and got us brilliant owners.

When it came to board meetings when some matters were raised and votes were taken then yes he could have done exactly that but he didn't

anyway everyone is entitled to view him as they wish

He was well worth the money, might just be the best money LFC ever spent because it resulted in us replacing the tumors with these brilliant men.

Me neither but still think Broughton deserves some credit. He had to keep Cecil onside and suppose the compromise was to let him play football manager for a bit. Remember Cecil was a G&H poodle beforehand

I genuinely can't believe people still use the "yeah but he got a lot of money for it", well you hardly expected him to do it for free did you? He did his job, which was a very important job, and he did it well. If it wasn't for him, who fucking knows where we'd be now. Grow up and fucking aknowledge he did a great job. Would you refuse to praise the 2005 team for their efforts in Istanbul because they were getting paid a lot aswell?

Broughton will always have my respect for getting rid of Hicks and Gillett, But he could not have done it without help from the other two directors.

Just imagine what would have happened to LFC if they had not managed this to do this

Chelsea season ticket-holder, attended their year-end do last season or the season before. The ease with which he is willing to sport the red of Liverpool (based on the opening post here) gives you an idea of what he is - a detached professional. You don't sing songs for that type, you use them, renumerate them, send them on their way.

He was also a part of a series of screwed up decisions at the club, not the least being the Benitez dismissal.

You refuse to acknowledge that he did well in finding us owners, blaming it on Luck??

His job when he came here was to find the club new owners. He's not going to stick his neck on the line taking drastic measures within the club.

Even if you think he did more bad than good, if it wasnt for him you might be supporting tranmere rovers.

He was brought in to do a job - He did it. May have been G&H's man but he like Cecil he finally saw the light and realsied the 2 pricks were in the wrong...is it their fault their bosses were c*nts. Surely after they found out what they were up to and put it right they deserve some credit

There was unrest with senior players and Rafa, owners and Rafa, and Purslow and Rafa. Broughton certainly didn't just 'sack' him off his own accord.
