I've noticed on a few threads that people are suggesting they cannot sign the petition if they're outside the UK. Well, I live in Mexico and I signed it last week, received my confirmation link and received the message saying that my signature had been added.

I ticked the box for British citizen and gave my Mexican address. No problems.

Just saying in case others are being put off signing.

This site has more users than that petition has signatures. So some people obviously haven't bothered their fucking arse to sign it. The whole fucking RAWK site should be blocked and only opened when it hits 100,000. Or only people who have signed it should be allowed to log on.

Most the site has ever had at once was 10,000-ish. Though we show 30,000 members, now, whether that counts all the people Jon and Pheeny have banned I'm unsure, if it does, there's actually only about 4 thousand of us. Give or take the odd spazy mod, of course.

This is true. People abroad can also just put in any random address from Google maps anyway, postcodes supplied and all. And you can put a random name.

The unfortunate thing about this petition though is that it requires a fairly good knowledge of Hillsborough that most outside Liverpool do not possess (even with the excellent Panorama documentary). As its an 'attack' on an individual person, people with little knowledge of the event are (rightly in a sense) too ill-informed to sign it. I mean, I actually had to explain the details to my best friend before he signed it. This is all in contrast to the more obvious anti-institution Hillsborough petitions from before.

Have there been any celebrity-twitter based endorsements this time round? Rodgers, etc. It would be excellent if someone could get Daniel Craig to share it.

Sort of but there is still a problem with it targeting an individual. People won't just believe that the tweet is factual and lots of those people will not be motivated enough to actually delve in and get clued up themselves. Which means they do the ethical thing in their minds, which is to not sign it in the event that it may be false information. I don't think people cared as much when it was a judicial review of an institution because there is less margin for error and little need to look up the facts. If the facts didn't stand up, the review finds nothing, if they don't, there will be an outcome = little risk.

The unfortunate thing is that too many people view it as a 'local' problem, not a travesty on a national level. I don't know what can be done about that, but I think the combination of that and the 'individual' side of this petition is seriously hampering its progress.
