Rafa on THAT half time talk.  Language barriers aside, the greatest modesty and understatement in football history!!!

' We had been talking in the half time, we need to do something, we need to change things and maybe we score things would be different and we scored and it was different'

Right brains of RAWK, I need your help before I go mental.  :butt

I need help to identify an advert from the 80’s (I’m almost certain it’s the 80’s). It will be 87 onwards and I know this because of the song, Live it up – Mental as anything,  is used in this advert and that reached number 3 in Feb 87.

I’m sitting here in work going nuts because someone asked me “hey, remember that song Live it up, well what advert from the 80’s was it in?” It’s doing me head in now and nobody knows!!!

I know it was in that mate yes, but I am pretty sure it was in an advert too.

I keep thinking of them little potatoes with faces for the Smiths crisps ads but it's not that I don't think.

I'd also like to appeal to anyone who can find a copy of the Ian Rush, Nike advert from 1986.

The one where he's on a laborotory table, dressed as Frankensteins monster, with the bolts through his neck.

I've been trying to track it down for a few years now, and still havent found a copy anywhere.

First aired during the 1986 Mexico World Cup, during the half time of the Denmark 6 - 1 Uruguay game, if I remember rightly. ( UK TV )

Hey ya bleeding hijacking swine!

But now you mention it, I don't recall Rushy being in any such advert??

Oh it exists mate. It does indeed.

It starts as a view of a pair of Nike boots on a lab/morgue table, with some such wording as 'he's a monster/he's not natural etc etc.  The camera pans up the table to a pair of legs - a waist - a torso.   Then the monster sits upright on the table, and lo and behold it's Ian Rush with bolts through his neck, ala. Frankensteins Monster.

As I say, first time I saw it it was about 4am in the morning (UK time) during the 86 Mexico World Cup, Denmark Vs Uruguay half time ( the game where Denmark scored 6  )

And me and my sister sat there in disbelief, and absolutely pissing ourselves laughing when we realised it was Rushy.

Does anyone know any detail of Nike's PR people within the UK, as I might get onto them to see if there is a copy in archive anywhere.

According to Wikipedia: "In December 1986, they performed under the pseudonym, The Death Barrels, in a competition sponsored by Mambo, Battle of the Surf Bands at Selina's Coogee Bay Hotel".

Mambo sell clothes (website here: http://mamboaustralia.com/ ). Perhaps that ring a bell for you?

A quick look at IMDB http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1184347/ didn't give anything either so perhaps Mambo is the best shot...?

No, his dad wrote and sung the song.

I did a bit of googling - it was used in Australia (or possibly New Zealand) for a furniture store called Freedom Furniture.

Sorry, couldn't find anything in the UK for it, although one person thought it may have been for the Wimpy advert (actually the Wimoy ad went 'come on over to my place/we're having a Wimpy' - close but no cigar).

I was thinking earlier about the power of advertising.  I am never usually sucked in by adverts but can remember like yesterday an ad that made me mither my mum to death to treat me to some Ice Magic

It most definitely didn't make my Ice Cream turn out like it does on the advert and was used probably once before sitting at the back of a cupboard and being binned months later

I absolutely love YouTube for things like this. :)

Check out the sound effects

The clap of thunder as the spoon breaks through the choccie.

The howling icy fresh wind blowing through the woman's hair at the end

I can imagine the Ad agency people sat there with a BBC Sound effects album like the one Dougal had in that episode of Father Ted :)

I remember a couple of years ago I saw some in the supermarket and convinced my wife it was the greatest food invention of the 80's, having previously very fond memories of it when visiting my nan's. Bought some and was ready to use it on a nice fresh tub of ice cream. Cue me asking the mrs where it was......yup, in the fridge !!!

Classic ad but that's not a jingle Rob, it's a legitimate song. As such your submission has been rejected.

I've seen the Just One Cornetto classed as a Jingle and that is O Sole Mio, so I'm having the Maxell one ;)

I can never hear that song now and not sing those words ;D
