We're coming up against a side that's been in the Champions League every season for the last 1000 years, winning it as recently as 2013 whilst getting to the latter rounds nearly every season. It's our second season back in the CL in a row since the days of Rafa. Yeah, we're not favourites for this one by any stretch of the imagination, and that's exactly how I'd prefer it. You'd think we were playing Spartak Trnava judging by some of the posts on here.
And you can bet this is exactly how Klopp will approach it!

I wouldn't be surprised if by the time we play Bayern they have changed their manager and we face a team bossed by a certain portuguese fella.   ;D

Bayern played Leipzig last night. Not really impressed by Bayern as a whole. Their strikers were off colour.

However, Old guards Ribery and Robben will always be threats

Klopp just said the two clubs he wanted to avoid this early in the CL, Dortmund and Juventus.
Hmm, not Barcelona? Maybe because those two are doing so well in their domestic leagues.

I think Mourinho's scorched earth policy is going to cost him over the course of the next few seasons. He won't get a Bayern type job again without restoring his reputation elsewhere first.

Mourinho is not a good fit for Bayern at all. I dont think they'd ever even consider him. Kovac might be gone by that time, but he's morelikely to get replaced by someone like Zidane than Mourinho.

yeah, Bayern would be out of their minds to even consider him.  Although the idea of Uli Hoeness and Mourinho working together is pretty funny  ;D  Still, I don't want his shit on a stick football sullying the bundesliga!

Bayern last night got the job done without looking particularly cohesive until the last few mins - but then that's been their MO at times over the lasf few years. It was almost like they toyed with Leipzig, although I am sure that wasn't their intention. They where lackluster for long stretches, playing without much pace or urgency. Then the last 15 mins, they woke up, and got the goal.

In an ideal world, you'd love it if Boateng and Hummels where in the lineup vs Liverpool. But I'm sure that so long as Nik Süle is fit, he'll be on that teamsheet.

He said that it's too early for Dortmund , it's a fixture that should be in the later rounds such is the meaning for him, and he sees Juventus as the favorites.

Just sat down and watched the draw on the UEFA YouTube Channel.

Wow interesting draw. Can't believe this is our first time facing them since the backdrop of the Treble season. Ironically the year when I also started supporting the club.

I think we will have these, very confident about this.

It's about time!!!

After today's antics in Serie A.  I fully expect Koulibaly to be a Premier League player next season, cant see us going for him but sure that he thinks the P.L looks a better place to play than Italy . . . even being a Manc would be better than the abuse he had to take today.

Even Sterling would say "Come Here, don't put up with that Shit" and its not often  I would listen to anything R.S would say.

Too good a player to have to put up with that, hope he makes the move to P.L  whichever team takes him.

Wouldn't the Serie A thread be better for this?  Seems a bit out of place in a thread about the last 16 of the cl and won't get the attention it should get, plus it's already been discussed in there.

This was a guy that played a blinder against us but also fecked up big time when head to head with Salah for a goal that will live in memory.

A big part of us gettin to the last 16 so I feel it was a fair post in this thread that will be an important thread over the next 7/8 weeks.

BREAKING: Thomas Müller has been handed a 2 game ban by UEFA following his red card against Ajax. He will miss both legs against Liverpool.

Not exactly an in-form player for them currently but nevertheless a loss in terms of big-match experience I suppose..

It's bit mad that a last 16 Champion's League tie with Bayern Munich may provide some light relief from the league campaign.

Given the pressure cooker situation of the title race, and how some are reacting, I think it may be good for us to have this game on the horizon. It may also feel a bit like a 'free hit' in the context of our season.

Feels a bit strange to say a CL game is a free hit given how much stock we've put on qualifying and progressing in this competition in recent years.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

I am hugely looking forward to this beginning again and I think it will help us regain some rhythm once we're back playing more matches and that will help with the league campaign.

Gnabry scoring again for them tonight, he is in some form.  He's developed into a very good player.

They got a bit lucky earlier though, Schalke had about 3 chances in 10 seconds, but Bayern somehow managed to clear it.
