RIP Bertie Mee
« on: October 22, 2001, 08:01:10 pm »
A conversation upstairs tonight ?

Said Bertie Mee
To Bill Shankly
"Have heard of the North Bank Highbury ?"
Shanks said "No
I don't think so
But I've heard of the Anny Road aggro."

Arsenal's double winning manager of 1971, also winner of the Fairs (UEFA) Cup in 1970.

Well Alf i was a born a yr later when Arsenal won their 1st Double and since growing up i've read the names of that famous and legendary team as well as their boss  Bertie Mee.

Mee was and will always be an Arsenal icon to many of your fans. Just like David"Rocky" Rocastle and many others who have played for Arsenal FC

I'm sure the first thing Bill will say to Bertie is that Arsenal were lucky to the win the second part of the double that May  ;-)

Rest in peace Bertie, there was loads of songs though werent there:-

"Bertie Mee says to Bill Shankly,
You've heard of The North Bank Highbury,
Shanks says no... I don't think so,
But I've heard of The Pop Side Derby"

"Bertie Mee says to Bill Shankly
'Have you heard of The North Bank Highbury?'
Shanks says, 'No, I don't think so,
**Enter your own here (from these)**
But I've heard of the Anny Road, Aggro
But I've heard of the West Ham, Aggro
But I've heard of the Millwall, Cold Blow
But I've heard of the fit bird, J. Lo
But I've heard of the Taliban, Oh No

With a bow legged chicken and a knock kneed twat
it aint been the same since they fucked our cat
the cat had kittens by the back yard door
doing the Liverpool boot walk.

"With a knock-need chicken and a bow legged hen,
We ain't lost a fight since fuck knows when,
We walk with a wiggle and talk with a slang
We are the Liverpool Boot Boys"

Same tune for em all.

With the very tragic news about Arsenal legend and icon Bertie Mee. He will be fondly missed not only by Arsenal and Watford fans. But by true football fans, whatever club that they support.

Also in my opnion he is up in the ranks of the great football managers e.g. Chapman,Cullis,Stein,Shankly and not forgetting "Sir" Bob Paisley

Many condolonces to the Mee family. You'll Never Walk Alone Bertie  :'( :'(.

RIP Bertie Mee.

A good innings though from a man who obviously knew the game.

I was 2 when that 71' cup final was played so I don't remember anything about the team's or the match but have seen the game many time's since.

What I do remember was Gerald Sinstad's vintage commetary for Charlie Georges long range goal.

It went something like this,

"Play's the ball out to George who can hit them from here......O I say..... and he's hit one!"

Absolute class!
