I know this isn't lost lingo, but I'd not heard 'Gozzy'  for years (about 20)  until I came in here a few months ago and someone called Moyes a 'Gozzy eyed twat'.

Since then I've spent hours trying to get Mrs Rusty and the kids to use 'Gozzy'.   We live in Cheshire, its not working. Sigh!!

The word for "Gozzy" here in Spain is "Twerto" perhaps that might work better in Chester

It's just a standard bin or at least it was in my house.

Not heard that for a long time.

When I would used to do or say something stupid as a kid me nan would say i was "thick as a docker's butty". I don't know if that's just her though who says that.

She's told me about the dockers umbrella as well but that's probably not used anymore I've never heard anyone young say it

In Manchester, if you were waiting for someone and they were late - pretty late an' all - after the initial "where the fook you bin til now ?" you would add "I've been sitting here like Piffy on a rock bun." Don't ask - I have NO IDEA.....

Owl arse, meaning crafty, sly, lazy or canny. Not the same as Arl arse, which means old.
Owl arse was interchangeable with cute, which meant the same. It doesn't mean cute like a baby or kitten, I think it comes from an Irish word meaning sly.
(Awaits corrections from anyone Irish!)  :)

Surprised no one has mentioned "away with the mixer" or "head the ball" (pronounced 'ed)

As in "That one from next door is away with the mixer" = The woman from next door is slightly mad.

or "Their Vinnie is a fuckin' head the ball" = His brother Vinnie is a psychopath.

Yeah, 'La' was like a full stop in general conversation. When you were at the bar getting the ale in, 'Queen' served the same purpose - unless it was a bloke behind the bar, in which case of course, 'bollocks' was used.

Bit of a disgusting one, but what about "Golly" meaning to spit? Used to hear it all the time years ago, but haven't done for ages.

It would come up in coversation something like this:

"Eeeee - see that twat Rijkaard Gollying all over that German fella last night?"

Golly seemed to evolve into grock - which itself is also used to describe a meathead.

Same word, two totally different meanings for no apparent reason.

No still hear it used regularly.

I've always thought that was the correct name for them (not with that spelling though :) )? They werent cockles or whelks. They were like minature mussels. My ma used to buy them for me da from the fish shop in Greaty.
