Nothing new in that, or that can't be predicted for what's left.

Anyone any idea what's happening to the old Irish Centre (ie Wellington Rooms), or , as expected with the bunch of Philistines on the Council, will it go the same way as the Futurist?

I heard fat head on the radio this week taking credit for saving the bombed out church, even though i think it was 250k funds matched by the council which 'saved' it.
Regarding the Irish center..i did see some suits (hard hat/high viz) there a few weeks ago when passing so hopefully something positive there.

Yeah great idea to flatten that for the Holiday Inn, good job we have always had wise councillors looking after our heritage. Long may they regret it.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't flattened for the Holiday Inn. Was it Steers House?

Couple of images of the Sailors Home.....first showing its location from the bottom of Duke st...and then one in all its glory.....such a great decision to flatten it in 1974....we should be forever thankful to whoever the transitory, faceless, here-today gone-tomorrow, tin-pot councillors were who rubber stamped it's demise....

Found this earlier..looks to be one mid demolition.
Fucking grim picture apologies.

It looks like it's been freshly tarmaced, but are you positive that's '72 as it looks to me more like it could be '62.

I accept I could be wrong and I know a few old Zodiacs/Zephyrs like that were still around in '72, but just the general tidyness of the scene, the lack of litter and such, makes it look like it could be from a decade earlier.

Aye mate i do admit it does look earlier than '72.
The description from the original link stated that date & I've found no evidence suggesting earlier thro searches.

I guess we'll have to go with that date then.

I've had a quick looksee and it's about here in Streetview today.

It's difficult to line up exactly as in the original photo but it looks like that shop in the original on the left, C.L.Cain, that the woman pushing the pram towards the photographer is outside, is now that house painted red on the left.

A couple of things that stick out is how those front bays have straightened up/rebuilt..may just be the foto.

The car is on a 'B'plate, so that makes it either a late 1964 or an early 1965 car, so late 60's or early 70's fits.

It's the end towards West Derby Road by the month roads, June, July, and September.

Just had a nose on google maps amd didn't realise it's still there , it just looks a lot grander in that 1966 pic , on the pic it has quite a classical look to it from the distance but up close looks quite bland . Has it been altered ? As it looks rounded on the edges on all four corners on the old picture but isnt on satellite .

Those Exit Only doors got well abused on the school run home  :D

One of our neighbours used to work for MPTE driving the buses. When he was on the 15D to Tower Hill, he used to nip home in it rather than park at the Terminus at the top of the estate.

Was that an Atlantean? I can remember the novelty of getting on a bus without a conductor.

I'm not too sure if all the redundant conductors were so pleased with the novelty of being on the dole.

The missing pediment from St. George's Hall, taken down in 1950 and believed to be broken up as hardcore.  You can see it in place on the second picture.

Yeah it would have been.

I can remember the conductor on the old buses, putting the rope across when the bus was full. They'd have a fit now if you had a bus with no doors. It was always a laugh to jump off the platform just before the bus stopped. Me and our kid always wanted to get the seat behind the driver and watch him driving the bus.

Our kids will be saying the same about all the bus drivers, truck drivers and taxi drivers ending up on the dole once fully automated buses, trucks and taxi's get brought in.

The Toxteth one I recognise. It's taken on Granby St itself, probably from outside the launderette or the chippy. Chances are it was taken in 198/2 when we had that boss winter with snow everywhere for what felt like weeks - and skating on Sevvie Park lake was The Thing To Do.

Not certain which street it's looking down but the lad running is deffo doing so on Granby. That graffiti was added to some time later with a massive 'FRONTLINE' emblem, in red, gold and green.

Sadly the sentiment expressed ceased to be the case some years ago.....

*edit* I think it's Eversley St. Look at this from google maps!
https://www.google.si/maps/@53.3941818,-2.9575043,3a,75y,262.38h,81.48t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sJcwUjcNNcYGZrSCW7pI-Cg!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo3.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DJcwUjcNNcYGZrSCW7pI-Cg%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D11.470713%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

Man, I hardly recognise Granby St at all now!!!!! :o

Nice to see Baktrax in there too and yes, competition indeed. I still have plenty of Cabaret Voltaire 12"s that I found in Baktrax thanks to daily rummaging, beating the weekenders to them ;)

Not sure which part of the city the picture was taken.

If your moral compass is Piers Moron then I ask you to think whether someone who oversaw illegal phone hacking and published fake pictures depicting War Crimes is an appropriate person to look up to. In fact, I'd suggest you're a bit of a c*nt.
