Diablo 3 confirmed by Blizzard
« on: June 28, 2008, 02:54:19 pm »
aka digital crack.

I enjoyed the last one immensely, it was incredibly addictive, but things have moved on since. Hopefully Blizzard can also take the game forward.

They don't need to. Blizzard games sell by the truckload because they're designed specifically for the PC and play to its strengths, rather than compromised to accommodate consoles like many mutli-format shovel ware releases. Their games also have pretty low minimum specs so they hit the maximum possible market- just about anyone with a PC made over the last few years will be able to play this.

same mate! Tho my wrist started hurting very quickly into it. I think it's the early stages of arthritis (too much wanking more like).

Found an old save game I had which is just after completing the game on normal mode... level 35 assassin. I went straight into the secret cow level, got killed, and couldnt get my body back. Glad I kept a backup of that save file like!

The graphics in game are pretty dated now (Mind you...they were when it was released!) but the cinematics are excellent and I still get a buzz when i see a unique item drop haha

Hate this game. Game itself is okay, its just the realisation you've spent countless days (yes days. We all know our total Diablo time actually counts up as days, for some of us maybe months even) mashing on keyboard and mouse buttons. At least with games like Civ I can say its helped me think strategically. Or with games like Mass Effect, I can say I really enjoyed the story, and it'll help with my writing. Not so with Diablo :P

I'm gonna play that space version of Dungeon Siege rather than this though. It might not be as well balanced as Diablo, but I think I'll like the setting better.

Arthritis? If you are under 60 yrs of age, then I reckon it is something more like carpal tunnel syndrome. Anyway... What was that man's name whose leg you transmuted? Wig? Wit? Wim? Wham?

Loved the first game.

Fair point there was a lot of clicking involved, but was always fun seeing what loot was dropped.

Certainly a lot more enjoyable than they likes of world of warcraft, where people seem to spend hours just fighting to gain experience that they don't even like doing!

Bit surprised you see it that way, because if you love watching loot drop, then you're likely to drop to your knees and cover your PC with cum in WoW when you get a rare drop for yourself ;D I know I almost did when I got my first rare ;D

Yeah... I don't think I'll be playing this for safety reasons. Besides the bottom line is going to be more or less the same as Diablo 2, and the graphics don't look too spectacular.

I also loved the first two Diablo games but to me, having watched the video's on gametrailers, it's just not doing anything particularly special and doesn't look that much better than Baldurs Gate 2 or Dungeon Siege which are getting on a  bit now.

True- but Blizzard always seem to make their games incredibly compelling. Neither Warcraft 3 nor Diablo 2 seemed to offer much over their predecessors at first glance, but both turned out to be ace. They don't need to release the game until they're sure it's spot on as they're making money hand over fist with WoW. The only thing I'd be slightly worried about is that they lost some key staff at Blizzard North a couple of years ago. But given that the people who left ended up making Hellgate London, then maybe they're better off without them...

Having never played any of the series, can someone describe the multiplayer gameplay to me.

Is it WoW like, click spells in certain order. (Gamer with most time invested in game generally wins.)

Or does it have some 'twitch' skills. (FPS like.)

Or it it some unholy hybrid of the two.

I never played the mutliplayer, but I think it was similar to the single player but party based. It wasn't a MMO like World of Warcraft and, although your character gained levels and loot, the game world wasn't persistent. There were also player v monsters and player v player modes and a league for the best players. I seem to remember the manual saying that once your character got killed in a certain multiplayer game mode, then that was it, no resurrections were possible.

That's a common reason actually! Its the same reason why I dont play. I refuse to waste my life in such large amounts. I have no doubt its a very fun game. If I win the lottery tomorrow and get set for life, no doubt I would. If only though ;D

Agree with that entirely. First one was fun since it was new at the time, second was horribly boring. I'm sure Blizzard will get a few percent out of the Logitech/Microsoft mouse sales.
The only thing I'm looking forward to on this one are the cutscenes.
