One thing that I noticed tonight is compare that Shaqiri to the one at Stoke last season.

He moved around the pitch like the weight was lifted off his shoulders, everywhere he turned, we had a player making a run and getting into better positions. He didn’t need to do it all alone and he looked relieved and like he was enjoying football again for the first time in months.

It looked like it took him about 5 minutes to "get it", and say "oh right, there IS quality around me", and then he was almost at the centre of every attacking movement we were doing, and if he wasn't, he was looking to be.

Obviously it won’t be every week but I’m looking forward to the occasional home game with the usual front 3 and a midfield that includes Shaqiri and Keita.

When did we last score double figures in a league game?

Watching how he operated tonight and where he positioned himself, I think he gets a Central role. I think we might be seeing him playing where Ox played.
I can see him playing way more often than I initially thought, and I think him and Salah are on the field together a fair bit.

As Firmino drops deep sometimes I can imagine XS pushing into that space.

Very, very exciting.

Too early to say but if he keeps that up in the rest of the pre-season, he'll start against the hammers. I loved the signing, but my expectations were that he'd take a little while to find his feet. Man looks like he'll hit the ground running. From the way we've gone about in the market, it looks like we'll be starting 4-2-4 in most games which ends up looking like a 2-2-6 with the fullbacks booming forward. I probably make no sense right now and I don't even care cause I've never ever felt so happy with our squad in the last 15 years.

I think we were talking about that before how Klopp wants to buy Shaqiri and Fekir just to play more or less 4 up with Hendo / Keita / Wijnaldum / Fabinho as the base. It makes perfect sense with all of our transfer strategies so far this window. Before we would have had more issues with the lack of midfielders to support this system, but now it is entirely feasible.

I am predicting we will score even more goals this year. Can be done.

So after scoring the best meme of the season, now he's scored the goal of the preseason, and against United of all clubs. He's paid his transfer fee off, hasn't he?

Did not want this transfer, but he is aleviating my fears by entering his Liverpool days in the best possible state of mind - and that signal the birth of a completely new Shaqiri. Similar to what happened with Oxlade last year, he could shatter all preconceptions about him in a space of few months and emerge a very different and improved player. Which would obviously be great. Just keep working hard with a smile.

Imagine the situation if between him, Sturridge and Keita they add 30 goals to our output. That’s not unreasonable I think. I know we may not have the same return from the for the front 3 but we might not be far off it. Imagine another +30 and with VVD settled and Allison in nets yours like to think that this would reduce the goals against by 10-15. There is huge optimism there. I’m so excited about the seasons ahead. Can’t bloody wait!

Just watched highlights. so Mane and Salah only played 1st half and then XS came on with Ojo and Sturridge right? If so can you imagine him pulling the strings behind the former 2 and Firmino. Think this'll be his eureka moment.

Great goal last night and from what I saw was buzzing around making a nuisance of himself, A wee reminder of a Craig Bellamy who could come on and up the pace / make a difference. Will be interesting to see how he progresses as the likes of Bayern & us dont come a knocking unless they think you can be a class act.

When you join a well functioning team full of quality players it's no wonder majority of our new signings thrive here.

With that being said it's only one preseason game, long way to go before we declare him a success though his touches between the lines were very encouraging.

He was always going to be better when surrounded by better players. At Stoke he was by far their best player but little help particularly with their shit on a stick football.

I always felt he would look much better in our side and whilst it is early days, he certainly started the right way

If is able to play as an '8' and put in performances as close to that against better opposition then that will change everything, because when it comes to the difference between challenging for the league and winning it, we need extra creativity in that role. One area where we are lagging behind City with their De Bruyne-Silva combo, but if he can translate that sort of showing when we play genuine opposition then a Keita-Shaqiri combo is going to be something else.
