All we need is freak accidents to Byrd, Carpenter, Halladay and Smoltz and the rest of us might have a chance! :D

Or a bit of commish intervention. ;)

Bret Boone has played his last game for the Mariners.  :'(
He was dropped today, now the M's have 10 days to trade him or release him outright.  Not a huge shock, given the way he's been hitting this season, but still sad to see it end like this.  :(  He was such a huge part of the unforgettable 2001 season.

Hopefully he will end up with a contending team and turn things around.
Could be going to the Padres?

Liz, I don't know what's going on out there but you guys paid a small fortune for Beltre. I know the season's only half over but 8 HR'S and 38 RBI's is brutal considering the money shelled out for this guy. Somebody ought to kick this guy in his ass. You're elected.

Beltre has really struggled with the switch from NL to AL.  (Not helped by the fact that the entire Seattle offense has been . . . quiet to say the least.)  He seems to settling in now though - hitting around .350 I think over the last 2 weeks, and the 2 home runs yesterday.  Hopefully this is the start of a big second half.

Disappointed but not surprised.

For a player of Boone's caliber, his numbers have been shocking lately. Time to give some of the young 'uns a chance.

I'd say a west coast team probably, but then again, the Mets would really like to add a bat like Boone's (when he is hitting) at second base, he'd be an upgrade from Matsui or Cairo thats for sure.

I'd like to know who the genius was who scouted Matsui in Japan for the Mets. They thought they were getting the next Ozzie Smith but it all went amiss. This guy can't play shortstop and is proving just as inept at second base. Now the fans are turning on him and rightfully so.

Then again this is the same organization which gave an $80 million contract to Mo Vaughn in 1999! The guy had just sat out an entire season through injury  and shows up for spring training at a svelte 280lbs! Ya gotta love it.

Yea, the mets front office with steve phillips was horrendous, this guy Minaya (the new manager) definitely is an improvement.   I'm interested to see what he does come the 2nd half of the season, I think he'll definitely make a move for a big player, possibly Soriano...

Minaya is well thought of and can lure a lot of Latinos to the club who incidentally are the best baseball players without a doubt. His choice of Randolph as manager wasn't a shock but Willie wouldn't have gotten that gig if I were GM. There was a lengthy article in the paper today about how unappreciated he felt by the Yankee brass all those years. Gimme a break. The Yankees asked this guy year after year to get some managerial experience by going to the winter leagues and/or the minors but he always steadfastly refused. In other words he wasn't willing to pay his dues. He'd had a few interviews for major league managerial positions but the word is that he didn't interview very well and wasn't as prepared as he should have been. Now he gets this job not having managed a game in his life at any level of play. Some of his decision making is screwy but whaddya expect.

agree with you, he wouldn't have been my first choice either.  He's far too reserved for a team like the NY Mets and not really an NL manager.

The Mets need someone like Pinella in there, that would be awesome...

You're jld-kensington?

Would you be interested in a Bobby Crosby/Michael Young swap?
Crosby is hitting .325, on base percentage is .388, and slugging .538, compared to Young's .322 / .368 / .499

By the way, you should go on to your team page and move Prior off the DL and in to one of the starting pitcher positions.  And you don't want to trade him for Rusch.  :P

The DL is where you put your player if he's injured and not active.  Prior is back from injury now and pitching again.  You don't have to put anyone else in his place as such, but I think you will need to drop one of your existing pitchers to activate him.  Hope that helps :)

It does but instead of waiting for advice i dropped a pitcher and now they are both on the DL bugger and i was doing so well to be in 11th place

Don't think we'll need him as Mark Loretta should be back in early August and our bench should be able to cover until then. Besides....There's no crying in Baseball  ;)

Nah, I like Bret Boone as he's a local boy and has played for us before but I'd be surprised if it happened. The only reason I could see us picking him up would be to move Loretta to 3rd because Burroughs just isn't getting the job done but we already have Geoff Blum who could start the rest of the season at third when Loretta gets back. Well, that's if Bochy takes my advice anyway.
