One issue with Diaz is, and this is a problem with the forwards in general including Nunez and Gakpo, is that they lack the midfield input that Mane and Firmino provided, maybe why games are more ragged and less controlled than we used to have. Individually, very good player, gets goals but the lack of link up play and control deeper in midfield isn't there, probably because their pressing isn't anywhere near the level that Mane and Firmino had.
He's tireless and puts in the effort and runs all day but I guess it comes down to the counter pressing aspect of the forwards and hunting in packs. Again, Mane and Firmino the absolute best at this. They seemed to be the model forwards for a Klopp side so my question is why did we deviate so drastically in recruitment - is it as simple as those players are few and far between or did the game move on from that and Klopp and Lijnders countered that with the new forwards?
