The demise of RED ISSUES on Koptalk.
« on: May 29, 2001, 03:04:28 pm »
Paul Tomkins, who wrote the Red Issues column on Koptalk, has left. The forum was shut down this morning. It was a decent forum, far better than the main forum on that site (is it just me or does anyone else feel as though they're in a manc forum when they visit that site ?).

Just thought I'd mark the demise of red issues with a comment : it was good, and will be missed.

the demise of koptalk started a long time ago, Tomkins is the final nail in the coffin for koptalk.

it does feel very much like a manc forum when on there i try to avoid it as much as possible

Just found out about this site before Red Issues disappeared. It was a good forum.
Koptalk was good but is fast on the way down. Dunk's just been selling shares in it too. Didn't go for them meself, not wanting to join the shareholding classes but I hope he didn't rip off too many people.
Probably get a lot of the old Red Issues posters over here if they saw the link in time.

I wish I was exiled in Spain - it's a darn sight cheerier than Leicester. It was a just a week - my honeymoon, and Liverpool put five past Alaves and four past Charlton.

Yes, I have left Koptalk, and will be offering my services to this site. Assuming people want to read what I have to say...

Welcome to all Koptalk Red Issues exiles.

It's interesting watching the site grow - we began with the survivors of a pre-existing community that started this site up when we were forcibly evicted from the chatroom on the official site website which, in .net days, some us moderated but a lot of us used. Some of us are match-going mates, and know each other to varying degrees from going to games/pubs, whereas others are overseas. The only thing we have in common though is LFC - otherwise it seems we have a very diverse bunch of people in terms of age, gender, race, location ...

It helps a bit if you edit your profile from the link just below the banner at the top of the page, to give us a hint of your gender, location and age ... not compulsory of course, but it's a way of giving people an idea of where you come from, and where you're coming from.

Indeed.

(Although it does seem that a Swedish site got it around the same time as you Steve ... but all the others were definitely copycat.)

I think you should start a good rumour. Like Phil Easton is sacked, for example ...

the swedish site is where I got it from ;) before wandering over to the German hosting site.

All the stuff about a well respected body blah blah blah issuing rankings for last 10 years etc is mine though as I've known about IFFHS for quite a while through my rec.sport.soccer days and did a bit of a "filler".

BTW hear you're on the loyalty scheme sub-committee

Oh yes, it seems I am  ;)

Yep, you gave me the link to rec.sports.soccer in one of our first conversations and I've used it extensively since (not so that'd notice, but I have used it for looking at rankings.) When Boca posted that "FIFA" World club ranking thing I went hunting and found the IFFHS stuff, although I also found quite a lot of damning stuff about their algorhythms.

The main thing I learned out of the whole experience is that stattoes are weird  8)
