Twenty's plenty and the £30 cap
« on: October 19, 2018, 10:48:18 am »
Hi all.

Really just a stream of consciousness post as I was thinking about this earlier.

Next season the £30 away cap agreement is due to expire. It's all gone very quiet on this front which is actually quite worrying.

Was thinking about how we get a shock paying €70 in the CL - actually if clubs in the league are allowed to price as they please again we'll be getting a good wedge of domestic aways around that mark.

I'll assume (hope) that discussions are ongoing in renewing the cap but I'm guessing there's a bunch of greedy bastards itching to wave goodbye to this.

Anyone heard anything? Perhaps a question for SOS.

Before the cap came in Arsenal and Chelsea were already charging £65 for away tickets which is about the same as €70. Dread to think what they'd be charging us next season if the cap isn't renewed.

Hadn't even realised it had to be renewed, fingers crossed it's sorted out. Must have saved me hundreds in the last few years on this.

It was initially a 3 season deal.

Didn't know Arsenal did this:

Discounted Premier League away tickets
We are delighted to remind our loyal travelling supporters you will be paying only £26 for each Premier League match this coming season.
We are a providing a further £4 discount on all away match tickets, in addition to the £30 cap on away tickets voted for by all Premier League clubs.

Yes they continued putting their 200k budget aside when the cap was agreed. Interested to see what the next developments are on the £30 front with the PL.

Where you seen this? Can only see a Times article saying they'll debate it and could oppose it?

Suggests the meeting takes place tomorrow

Any raise or scrapping would immediately get reflected in the light of the £5m goodbye pay-off to Scudamore. Can you imagine the optics? 'Sorry away supporters, we know you are our lifeblood and that many of you struggle to make ends meet, but hey someone's got to pay the £5m to our former multi-millionaire Chief Executive that we all happily agreed to...'

Not sure how much they're worried about optics though!

Seem to remember QPR charging around £70, Everton binned half of the allocation they were entitled to off, as tickets were sale & no return, QPR ownership changed during the season, so the prices came down a bit by the time we played them at there place.

Great news.

The clubs sweet silence on next years ticket prices is a bit worrying. Just a freeze would actually be shite, considering the latest fanfare around profits at the moment. You'd like to think they'd lower or extend young adult ages/lower kids, but obviously this is LFC we are talking about so I'll dream on

Yeah that was good, the applause went on for a while too

I know it’s not the point but it makes me laugh when an away fan moans about paying £48 on a ticket but won’t hesitate when paying hundreds for a flight, food, accommodation, booze etc. If you can afford to go the European alwas then you can afford £48 for a ticket..just saying  ;D

It's not about whether they can afford it or not. Clubs should realize the effort and expense that it takes commited fans to travel and take that into considerations in pricing. For clubs in champions league its not really the income from away ticket sales that are affecting your finances that much!

Wow you're right that absolutely not the point and it's a lazy attitude to have  -

Cumulative inflation 1990-2011 (when we were lobbying the premier league about prices) - 77%
Inflation of a ticket to watch Liverpool - 1000%

It’s not about who can afford to do it and even IF we could all afford rising prices year on year, why should we? It’s exploitation.

The £30 cap has kept a lot of our core away support at the game because the way it was going London aways would have been £70+ each by now. That cap has saved regulars thousands, literally. We would have lost even more of the game without it.

So, we aren’t stupid, they have us by the balls in so many ways, but we stick together and make a stand and people listen. See Hull away, the 77 minute walk out.

Pedantry, but the 77 minute walk out was Sunderland at home wasn't it? Hull away was but it a kids ticket and not attending.
