Well done again, Max! This lad has excited me since his first appearance. A genuine pass-n-move player who links up with everyone up front, can find/create space, can draw players and he actually RUNS with the ball. When he gets the ball and he's a bit deep, he'll run with it, getting players into play and building support before releasing the ball at almost the right time. He seems to have v. good timing- knows how long to hold onto the ball, when to release and he seems to be able to read the game a bit. Deffo a Rooney/Tevez type of player. The stuff Voro should've gievn us.

With him and Aqua in the team, we are being forced to play football up front. For me- Maxi's not had a bad game since day 1 with us. Just gets better. WELL DONE MAXI!!!

Not really, its just you lot havent been watching our games properly and been looking for scapegoats, he's always played well. His movement has always been great, he's always looked for the ball on that right hand side and has always interlinked well. That was his 3rd assist of the season, and he should have had about 5 others as well if not for shit finishing by Torres and Ngog. He's actually added something to our game but not been noticed and Rafa's been criticised for playing, he adds unbelievable fluidity to our game.
This! 100% with you lad. I've echoed that for a while on here now. Done good since day 1. Which is why Rafa makes the point of mentioning him after a game.

I actually heard one muppet in the media (a notorious wind up merchant) call him "the worst liverpool player of all time" last week after we lost at Wigan. I don't know how the muppet can keep a straight face.

Was played out of position and was unfit when he first came in. Was excellent last night.

I thought that as well but I figured people would think I had shit in my eye.  But he's them withought the pace and power which is probably what sets them apart.

He played well last night. He had one great shot that was just wide. He was closing down their players well.

He'll hopefully start to play with a bit more confidence and try different things.

He has just slotted in so well, hasn't he, and last night showed what he's capable of adding to a dynamic fluid attack. Link-up play to dream of. It's a shame he's cuptied for Lille.

My god how long has it been since we've been crying out for a player on the right with that rare combination of superb technical ability plus clever brain. Garcia was the last.

Just watched the match again and its Maxi rather than Aquilani that really got us playing when the game was still a bit tight. In saying that, I bet Maxi was delighted to be playing with a player who also likes to pass and move, and for my money Maxi has played to the exact same level in previous games. Only problem was he had no movement around him and a technically challenged centre back behind him (he also played on the left but he's never been great there).

Its no coincidence that both Atletico and Argentina's best football over the last few year has had Maxi playing a part.

Was restricted today having to cover for Insua. I'm still interested to see what he can produce once given a lengthy run on the right. Whenever he's played there he's looked a threat.

Agreed. I won't judge him tonight. He plays so much better on the right and Rafa should have stuck with Babel really.

Don't think it was his type of game, certainly not on the left. I don't think he's ready yet to make a big impact in big games. I see him as being used in the home games where his eye for a pass and ability to keep possession is more useful.
'Nights like the semi-final back in 2005 live long in the memory of anyone who witnessed it, never mind me as an opposition player. That night has always stuck in my head and given me the desire to one day play in a red shirt and help the club return to its former glory days.'

Do people really think Maxi isn't good enough??!!!

I think he's an excellent player and I think it's apparent how much the players trust him when he has the ball.  His flick through for the Gerrard chance was absolutely class.

Truly fantastic player, loves to keep it simple and opposition fullbacks dont seem to know what to do against him. Holds the ball up suprisingly well. I think he's getting too much stick due to the situation, he's new so some feel he hasnt done enough to warrant a starting place over certain others. For me we need to stick with him on the right and interchange him with Yossi at the moment, they both have something we need to continue playing the kind of football we did against portsmouth and have again today.

Excellent performance. Not just him but Kuyt, Gerrard and Babel too, particularly in the first half where the interchanging was sublime. That obviously suited him down to the ground and he delivered.

Thought he played very well. Was very creativte in his favoured position and linked the play between our more direct players very well.

He also seems to have a good understanding and gets good trust from Gerrard.

Surprised to see this Maxi love-in, and I wonder what Yossi is thinking at the minute. Because I for one really struggle to see what Maxi brings to the team that merits discarding the creativity Yossi is capable of offering. He looks a decent player, sure, but slow and rather predictable for a wide player.

(Great team performance today, though, so probably the wrong time to be complaining).

He may not be fast but i dont think you can accuse rodriguez of not being creative. He played some fantastic short passes that played in the likes of Gerrerd and co. Those passes may look easy but we have made them look difficult.

Watching him so far i think he would be more effective than Yossi in a really good passing and moving side.
