I'm not sure about demolition. What you gain in a few thousand seats would be lost in the atmosphere and the tight, compressed feeling of it as it is now.

I recall when the H&G abortion was being planned at 70k capacity it would have meant additional funding to improve transport links into the area and I’m sure it was for anything above 62k- I’m sure they looked at the feasibility of reopening the old bootle line as an option, I’m guessing this would still be the case

Surely not financially prudent to demolish the Kop just to add a few thousand extra seats, even if we were allowed a similar or slightly steeper rake (which I doubt we would)?

I think the Kop has about 13000 seats so if we did demolish it we are down that many seats for quite some time.

Things would have advanced since we last did it in 1994 but it took us the whole season to get it back to full capacity so you are down the capacity as well as construction costs.

The great thing about the Main stand and current Anny road work was we didnt lose any capacity with the way it worked.

Back to 1994 the early season games minus the Kop we had no one on it, so there would also be a problem as to where Kop season ticket holders would be relocated.

Its unlikely to happen but I would long term love to see the Kop made bigger

You can barely hear the kop from the ARE (hence all the bollocks from the away fans) unless in full voice which is always going to travel from any stand. The noise doesn't travel that well, particularly from the back where the 300 blocks are. It could be a lot better acoustically.

When we used to sit at the Anny end of the Kemlyn, in the days when 202 made all the noise, some games you couldn't hear the Kop. Yet when in full voice I've heard them from by Walton Hall Park while walking to the ground, Spartak Moscow early 90's springs to mind.

We had the recent concerts and think the turf is being relaid but someone more knowledgeable should be able to confirm

AFAIK the pitch isn't big enough; it can't host any Euro matches or major UEFA finals.

Pitches have to be 105m long - Anfield's is only about 101m

It changed about 16 years ago. To host group games and finals of UEFA tournaments, the stadium has to be a category 4 (not sure if cat 3 can host them too) which specifies the pitch has to be 105m long. We've a category 4 stadium with a category 2 pitch size.

It's been reported that we have already been told by the FA we can't have games, they'll go to BMD IF it ever gets built and the City is chosen.

I think there was a discussion on here some time ago about the feasibility of extending the pitch, but it just wasn't possble. Something like taking a few rows out of the ARE and making up the distance that way, I think those who are more clued up on this sort of thing said it was simply a non starter,

Bit of topic, but how big will the pitch be at Everton's new ground, if they've any sense, it'll obviously meet the UEFA regs to host major internationals, good on them (and the City in general) I suppose, but massive shame if we miss out.

With smaller than standard sized pitches becoming more and more rare amongst the top clubs I hope no one at UEFA ever decides that all CL games must be played on the standard pitch, meaning we either have to ask our neighbours nicely if we can borrow BMD or we start knocking out a few rows of seats and nip down the garden centre for a few rolls of turf.
