(4-4-2)Dudek; Carragher, Babbel, Hyypia, Henchoz; Riise, Murphy, Gerrard, Hamann; Owen, Heskey

With all players fit, what would you formation and players would you use?

And this isn't a poll is it Steve? ;)

Maybe Riise LB, Heskey LM, and Anelka/Lit up front with Owen at home is a bit better.

But the management have been making noises about shuffling it about over the summer, so I expect a couple of new faces, of whom I have never heard to be in our squad next year, and a couple of the old school out.

I think our team next season could look like this:

                                Dudek

      Babbel       Hyypia        Henchoz      Vignal/Carra

Emerton/Duff/Overmars/  Gerrard    Hamann     Riise
Murphy
                        Owen     Heskey/Cisse

Not bad for starters.

I have to say that looks spot on that team. Width on BOTH flanks. PACE of course up front. Creativity of Gerrard in midfield, Hamman and the back 4 solid and the number one keeper in the premiership. Certainly my first signing would be a player with width and creativity.

Vignal's not that good, doesn't offer that much in the way of defending, Carra is solid and consistant.

Vignal with Riise ahead of him work quite well and i can't wait to see tham back together.

Vignal will improve as he is still only about 20 and has been out of the frame for a while.

So 'old' man Carra at 24 is past it, eh. How did we beat the Manc's with him in the lineup and Becks bearing down on him?

Get off Carra's case. He's perfect in GH's system. He can defend and play multiple positions! So his distribution of passes isn't the best. He'll be playing long after others come and go.

Many have posted about our lack of midfield creativity. GH will probably address that during the close season. What he doesn't lose sleep over is Carra's play. Or Murph's for that matter.

When you lot quit trying to play Championship manager and understand the "team" concept, then maybe you'll have a better grip on what GH might do. Your as bad as the media with your speculation. And just what did they get right? Same as you lot.....lol... ;D

Agree with 4pool about Carra. Vignal has great potential, but for tight games where the defence needs to be at it's best, it's Carra every time for me.

I think most people would agree with me that Riise is a much better midfielder than full back. Yet for those weaker teams that come to Anfield to defend it may be worth putting him back as an attacking full back, bringing in some extra creativity into midfield.

Babbel was absolutely superb last year, if he gets back to anything like his best then right back is his, always. Xavier strikes me as a player who can do a job, but does lack that bit of real class. Squad player at most.

Midfield seems settled apart from right mid. I've a feeling a quality player will come in that side, with Danny as main back-up for both there and central midfield - I think he'll play in the middle quite often next year, perhaps covering Stevie.

Upfront - first choice there is no question - Owen and Heskey are both absolutely superb. I'm tired of people knocking Emile - he'll have the ultimate accolade any player could get next year, by having his name and number on my back  ;). If we are to buy another striker I feel it should be one without such a high profile as Anelka. A promising young striker who will be happy, at least for a year or two, being main back-up for MO & EH. Some might say we have such a player already in Milan Baros, but perhaps someone a little more like MO is needed, as our whole system plays to the strengths of such a player. Cisse seems to be the current favourite.

So the team at the top of the thread is almost there already - just a little tweaking here and there in the summer should be enough for number 19  :).

The eternal silence of these infinite spaces frightens me

I do not and will not slag Carra off but i think we will be stronger in the long term with Vignal and Riise on the left as thay worked together better as a partnership.

I know Carra is a good defender but his only problem is that he can play almost anywhere and this means he never seems to be able to cement one position for himself.

Still no way will we sell him though as he can with babbel be our central defence backup.

I'd go with this - 16 players, we'd win ALL our games  ;D

my team for next year

Dudek

RB Babbel
CBs SHx2
LB Vignal/Riise

RM ??????? (haven't heard anyone serioulsy linked to us who would really blow me away in this position)
CM SG
CM Hamann
LM Duff / Riise

Owen
Heskey

I also would prefer not to see us go for Anelka this summer, Cisse seems to be the touted other striker but I haven't really seen him so I can't comment.

While I agree that Riise is a better midfielder than left back at the moment, I do think his defensive abilities have improved as the season's gone on.

cant argue with that mark but i dont think it will be for much longer. pretty sure GH will bring in a midfielder and will replace murphy (in my team anyway).
