Ornstein from the Athletic reporting that Gini could leave in the summer with offers from Italy and Spain. Currently has 1 year left on his contract but hopefully Ornstein is talking out his arse as usual
It's always the way when a team is doing well - the media tries to create stories out of nothing (as usual).
I can see Gini staying for a long time yet for a number of reasons. Firstly, he's a fantastic player, the best protector of the ball in the league in my view, incredibly consistent, and an important cog in our machine. Secondly, he's a big game player and I think we'll have plenty of those in the next few years.
Thirdly, his playing style (like Virgil's) is very efficient and he's rarely injured, as his anticipation means you never see him lunging in, diving into tackles, or putting his body in a situation where he may get hurt. He was one of Klopp's early signings, playing 166 games in only 3 and half seasons, and I think he'll still play at the highest level into his mid-thirties as he's a real athlete.
Finally, he's a great example (as are all our players) to our midfield youngsters, and will also help with the transition from a Henderson/ Milner/ Wijnaldum-type midfield to a Fabinho/AoC/Keita one in the next 2-3 years. You could play him with any other combination of midfielders and he'd do well - he's that good.
I think we need him at the club for as long as we can keep him - regardless of what offers we might receive.
