Probably not just you thinking he was a bit off, probably not just me thinking he was a bit good. What I saw was a player sticking his oar into every situation he could, and often winning it and laying it off, finding a player or a pass out... defensively and attacking and generally getting his arse in the way all over the pitch.

Another one of those underrated (particularly by opposition fand) players that's now shoving it down peoples throats. Honestly, the people that were arguing City's midfield is better than ours at the start of the season just don't get football.

With Fabinho, Hendo, Gini, Milner, Ox, Keita + assorted others we are SO versatile (especially with the adaptability of Gini and Hendo), whilst City lose Fernandinho and they look a bit 6s and 7s.

Gini must be a nightmare to play against. I can imagine other players still assume that he’s this or that. Then they play him and find out that he is this, he is that, and he is also something else. It's true online, which is not the best place to judge granted! Still plenty of shouts of Liverpool's midfield being average or not all that 'apart from Fabinho', with fingers usually pointed at Gini and of course Hendo. At least people have come round to Fabinho being great. Daftest part is of course, that the team is still in sensational shape even without him for a few weeks, so our average midfield is quite something.

A lot of the media and pundits I think have finally 'got it'.  Took a while, as it did with a lot here of course.

Re-Reading that sentence, probably not. Think generally it frustrates me that any post or pre-match analysis carried out on the channels, coverage I watch - sky, BT, MOTD, some ESPN, Times, Guardian, occasionally telegraph, I don't think I've ever seen him get the credit that, say Fabinho, or Henderson rightly have. For me he's been our most consistent midfielder since around January 2017 and has been huge in pretty much any big game we've played since he's signed.

Would just like for once that someone in the mainstream football media, especially post match TV highlights does a segment on Gini and how his work rate, positioning, ball retention and technical levels are of big significance to the level of this team.

It is puzzling why he scored so many for the barcodes, continues to score for fun for his national team, but somehow manages to not find the target or just find the keeper most times when he shoots for us.

I'm not signed up to The Athletic but can certainly imagine the type of article it is. However, would be unfair to say "as usual" for Ornstein talking out of his arse. He took a lot of flak for saying we had no money to spend ahead of the summer, but it turned out to be true. He was certainly very reliable when it came to reporting on Arsenal for the BBC, so I'm sure he has strong sources.

I think it's more comparable to Emre Can than Lovren. We could have sold Can for a lower fee than his true worth a year ahead of his contract expiring, but decided having him in the squad was worth more to us than the money.

I remember arguing at the time I'd rather we'd have took the money and replaced him, but guess what, the club turned out to be right once again as he was pretty important in us finishing in the top four that season.

I see the biggest similarity being that they're both capable of moving the ball quickly with the minimum of fuss. Lemar is probably a better dribbler but Gini is superb technically as well. There are differences but from what I've seen of both, they fulfil a similar function in the team.

Well I'd be quite disappointed to see him go and honestly I'd be surprised, I think it's no secret that Gini is one of Klopp's favourites, particularly in big games. Also he and Van Dijk appear to be quite close, but I suppose it's football anything can happen.
