I really like Gini but he gets so many good shooting opportunities and his shots always lack conviction. Considering his scoring run for Newcastle before he signed for us it's a bit surprising, but he hits everything straight at the keeper and rarely looks like he actually wants to score.

Unless it's a header, then he's boss.

He scores for Netherlands. Hebplays more advanced for them. At Newcastle he was a wide forward.


Yesterday wasn't a great match for him in general to be honest. He didn't get on the ball that much but did a great job supporting TAA so he could get forward freely.

It's odd, he scores fantastic, crucial goals for us just when we need them - the brace against Barca, the one against Middlesbrough to claim 4th place, the towering header against Chelsea, the crucial one at Roma away etc but other times it seems like he's never struck a ball goal-ward.

Still, he brings so much more to the game that this is easily forgiven. He's Klopp's brain on the pitch and a very successful manager-to-be, I imagine

In general when Gini is on the field his main job is to cover for Robertson and contest midfield when we lose the ball in the oppositions half.  Nothing is really asked of him in going forward unless there is no other option.  It's completely different what he does for the Netherlands and for LFC on the field.

Different position and duties. Playing in orange frees him up to get more advanced.

He scored a great amount of goals for us as an 8 in his first season - he's guaranteed to do it as we can see in Holland's case as well - he's just got to get a permission to do so because it's obvious for a while his role is to be the closest one to DM.

That offence was on fire when we started the season, but then they started parking the bus against us and we got shut down with Milner LB, Clyne RB and Henderson 6 with far too much possession outside the bus. So 6 goals is fine for an 8 that season. Oh, and it was 33 appearances.


That season Lallana got 8 goals and 7 assists as the 10 effectively. In 27 appearances.

He's at his best when we're on top against a big team and he can get stuck in, keep the ball, etc.  But sometimes it feels like he's just too passive in his play.

Not a bad thing to do. We're gonna need to use the whole squad. He's a very key player for us. Makes sense that we have players who are perhaps a bit fresher in the 2nd half of the season, and then some players who feature a bit more heavily in the first half. Won't be that lop-sided and Gini will play most of the games for us, but we do need to manage minutes for the really key players carefully.
