I desperately want the kid to succeed as he's definitely talented, but I just don't see a lot of fire in him. I'll be ecstatic for him if wrong.

I think the new manager has to get it in his head he is 6'3 and 13 stone. With his physical stature and technical ability he should be a monster. Think Yaya Toure.

first game back after a long injury, you're expected just to slot into a team that's on the run in, you have to give him a chance, people forget how young he is

People are comparing Grav to Jones but all players are different. It took Jota one year to score a goal after an injury.

to many injuries this season for him to have a long run in the side
will probably start the europa league games and be used as a sub for premier league games

exactly, different types of players, look how long it took for Klopp to mould Curtis into the player he is now

Yes, it has taken Klopp a couple of years to mould Jones into the player he is now. But I was more talking about their respective performances midweek. Players recover sharpness after injury at different times and Jones has recovered from like he was never away but Grav isn't Jones.

There are pros and cons for Gravenberch under a new manager.

The pro is he will have a completely blank slate and the new manager will have no expectations one way or the other and the player will have the best chance to impress.
The con is the manager didn't buy the player so if he doesn't impress he will feel no loyalty or obligation to give Gravenberch time.

I said at the time Klopp left I was worried how he’d get on without Pep and Jurgen in his corner, managing his development.

I’ve seen enough in spells that he has undeniable talent, I don’t believe for one minute he has a poor attitude or is lacking anything, I just feel he’s not found his feet yet and usually a pre season is a big opportunity for that to reset. 12 months ago the majority of the fan base were debating where Darwin would play, why we’d signed a 9 to play on the left and most questioned the fit. Then he resets in the summer, develops as expected and is now a key player.

It might take Ryan a couple of years to develop into a key player, he’s still years from his peak. The big problem for him is we have 3 top drawer 8s and Harvey’s not far from joining that group. As talented as he is, he might struggle to get the consistent minutes to reach his potential.

Yeah, was thinking the same thing. He looks like he needs some development and if Klopp and Lijnders were still here in the close season and next year, it'd benefit him massively. With them leaving, it's just a bigger question mark. Not to say whoever comes in won't be able to, it's just a bigger question mark.

Although Thursday was his first start since he got injured so it's no surprise he wasn't amazing to be fair. Like you say, it may take a while to reach his potential but I'm not too concerned just yet about him getting minutes, with the squad as it stands (and Thiago probably leaving) we'll still have plenty of games to go around - I guess it depends on whether the new manager will give him those games because we have more developed players available.

It was a lovely goal and his confidence noticeably improved off the back of it. I am pleased for him now he needs to build on it. As I said before the game no one expects these players to be stars, but just do everything they can, be the best edition of themselves, as the boss will say.

Thought he was shite until the goal - was actually in the middle of texting someone that he needed subbing when he put it in - but fair fucks to him. It was brilliantly taken, and he grew in stature and played much better after that. More of the second half Gravenberch please.

Yeah I thought he was our best midfielder in the first half - every ball into Elliott and Endo was going right back where it came from and he was the one looking to turn and move us up the pitch. Also thought he was putting himself about more than usual defensively (didn't always come off, but an improvement). Great goal and hockey assist for the Jota goal too.

It's frustrating because I think there's a player in there, we just haven't seen much of it this season. If he could try to impose himself on the game a bit more I think he'd be a beast - great technique, ability to beat a man and beat the press, big and strong, pretty quick, great shot - maybe not the best passer (from what we've seen) and questionable decision making (but he's young).

Let's see what the next manager does with him, but I thought he really stepped up today.

He’s so raw the difficulty is we can’t afford to give him the time to develop. His passing is often terrible and he only wakes up periodically. When do we give him a run of games?

I think Bayern and now Liverpool was too big a step for him. He would have been better now if he had played in a smaller club. And we cant really loan him out

At 1-1 he lost the ball high up got back and Iwobi flicked it through his legs in our defensive third which caused me to go mad. But he scored a great goal and boy was that needed.

We talk so often about Klopp sides needing rhythm etc I thought he came in today and did pretty well considering the kip of the team over the last few weeks. His athleticism really helped at times and the goal was a beauty.

Really don’t think he’s miles off like some others, a big pre season and a slight tweak to his role should see him come along. Definitely don’t think he needs a loan, I think he needs a bit of consistency now, time to settle down, find his feet and to refine his game. He’s got age on his side and hopefully the new manager has a plan for him.

If Klopp wasn't going 100% a preseason under him and Pep they'd sort out his tactical and defensive awareness or atleast take a big leap.

Look at Nunez, people thought he was a headless chicken with pressing and look at him now.

Problem is like you said what the new manager has in plans with him and if Edwards rates him I guess?

Did the thing we've struggled with most the last couple of weeks, and it was a belter. Onwards and upwards now for Ryan.
I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close
