Not that i read heat magazine, but my sister does, and i've noticed that Will Young's new video is going to be based on top gun, with him as maverick and a look-a-like as Goose. Draw your own conclusions.

Whats with people suggesting Independence day?

Very far-fetched and cheesy in parts but i still find it entertaining when it comes to the action scenes. When i think back now though the cheese factor was quite strong in this beast. Even at that age i cringed when will smith said "Welcome to earth" and punched that alien in the face. I can perfectly remember the audience laughing at that scene, and i swear not many were my age. How on earth do you manage to knock out an alien with some crazy ass thick metal outer layer suit. He's will smith of course!

The whole airforce nicknames + cigar combo really annoyed me too. Trying to mix the similar sort of topgun coolness (we all know how cool that movie is despite gay innuedo) didn't work for me.

Okay, so now i'm beginning to see why people chose the film....

Watched that 'The Business' a few weeks ago- what a pile of shite! Could've have been quite good with all the retro feel to it- but they fucked that 1 up proper!

Case closed!!! Being a bad film is one thing, not liking it is another, but bein so bad you feel like smashing the screen and hunting down everyone who had anything to do with the film, even the guy who made your popcorn, is a completly other thing.

good one. Attempted to watch the first 20 min of the film on Sky a few years back and i ended up wanting to write a suicide note.

I also thought Any given sunday was good. I can't stand the sport itself but I enjoyed the movie.

Going by the "it has to be a big film to be truly awful" rule, I'll pass over the entire Steven Segal genre and focus on Mr Gibson. First up - The Patriot - another heap of stinking shite from Mel...

Plot: he's a 'family man' who either hasn't got the morals or just can't be arsed to fight for his country. Family gets hurt so turns into a raging psychopath and takes revenge on the wicked English. Where exactly is the patriotism... not that I give a rats arse. Badly written, badly acted (overacted by Mel), cliche after cliche...

Followed closely by Braveheart... a family man who can't/won't defend his country.... Family gets hurt so turns into a raging psycopath..... revenge.... wicked English......

I couldn't stop laughing.

Credit where it's due though , he knew his market and made a movie tailored to them.
For me it's come to a stage now that when I see Icon in the opening titles I switched over, I cannot remember the last good movie he made.

Mad Max 1 (1981) was a classic movie, plus Gallipoli (1981) and The Year of Living Dangerously (1982) are the only three good Mel Gibson movies as far as I am concerned.
