I use 90 points as the reference point, as until we did 97 points, no second place team had broken the 90 point barrier.

Similarly, until a few season's ago, no 5th placed team had exceeded 70 points, so that was a good cutoff point for CL spots.

Until City came along, 95 points was the PL record (by Chelsea, the original "cheats").

Until City came along, 95 points was the PL record (by Chelsea, the original "cheats").

Premier League has had 26 seasons of 38 matches.

Average for the winner is 87 points.

9 seasons of 26 have had a winner with 90 points or more, the highest 3 winners have all been in the last 4 seasons!

City 2017-8  100 pts
LFC 2019-20   99
City 2018-9    98
CFC 2004-5    95
CFC 2016-7    93
CFC 2005-6    91
MU  99-00      91
AFC 2003-4    90
MU  2008-9    90

United won with 75 points in 96-97!

Lowest winning total since RA entered the scene is 2010-11 United with 80 points, followed by Leicester's 81 pointer.

Since the oil sheikh's entered the scene, it's Leicester's followed by 2013-4 & 2020-1 City @ 86 points

A six point swing from Manchester City to Liverpool this weekend... the Reds gained a whopping 3.7 on their xG difference too.

It's gonna get tougher from here on in especially away from Anfield. 20 points better than at this point last season suggests were on course for 89/90 points.
Will that be enough?

eerily similar to 18/19 this...

That Kompany goal against Leicester at home was the one that got them their title then.

The last two seasons without their generals they have not had a perfect winning run to the end but also there's been no pressure. It will be fascinating to see how this crop of players cope with it

For us...most of our lot from 18/19 are still there so you'd think we have the advantage when it comes to muscle memory

Looking back on the season, after the West Ham loss we won 6 in a row, then Spurs draw Leicester loss Chelsea draw, won 10 in a row before the City draw, and 2 wins since then.

22 matches, 57 points equates to 98.5 points season.

That's a nice run of results.

2.73 ppg for the second half of the season so far is incredible. At Christmas it looked like we would struggle to get to 90 points and we're now on 82 with 4 to play. Even if we don't get the title this season (I think we will) this form will set us up for a very good go at it next season.

We were pretty much written off by the so-called experts at the start of this season because of what happened last season. But the management team and squad have shown that was due to the extraordinary circumstances and with a clean bill of health we can get back to the kind of form that saw us blow everyone away in 2019/20.

After Liverpool lost at Leicester, I tweeted this regarding their title hopes:

"If City repeat their first half of the season in the second half, Liverpool need to go W17 D2 L0 to even draw level. City may drop off a bit, but it’s basically done."

As things stand, they've gone W13 D2 L0 since then, so will get close to what I deemed impossible even if they don't match it. For the record, City went 15-2-2 over their first 19 and have been 11-3-1 since so won't have dropped off if they win their last four  :(

Interesting chart from Experimental361....number of days each team spent in each league position.

United, Spurs & Chelsea all spent more days in 1st than we did!

Only Chelsea & ourselves didn't spend anytime in the bottom half of the table.

Burnley actually had a day when they were in a CL position ;D

Expected Goals Table

Spurs & West Ham accrued a lot more points than their performances deserved.

City, Brentford, Palace, Villa & ourselves should have ended with more points.

We had the best half season

City very consistent

United, Hammers fell off a cliff in 2nd half

Interesting that, on the final day, the Top 8 became the Top 8 as Leicester finally dragged themselves up ;D
