As mentioned before check the young boys thread (still doesn't sound right) about the various discounts.
Found it. This is a quote from Glockdanny from the Young Boys game. Worked for me last time
Some of you might have sussed this, some might not
The train fares seemed to be expensive on the days following the draw last week - this is because the Swiss train networks' Supersaver fares had not yet kicked in.
In order to take advantage of the MUCH cheaper prices, you need to wait until 14 days before your departure or less - it's pretty much the opposite of how train fares work here.
Now, I say 14 days - the Swiss are famous for clocks and watches yeah? Well they do literally mean 14 days if you measured that in seconds and minutes. In layman's terms, if your train was due to depart Zurich at 1500 on Thursday 20th September, you wouldn't be able to buy them at supersaver prices until 2pm this afternoon in this country (allowing for the time difference).
So if you're booking for the Wednesday or Thursday as most are travelling then, you need to get rar on it.
BUT DON'T BOOK A RETURN.....because the above rules still apply even for that. Again, in stupido (because I am stupid) terms that means you can't book the cheap seats for the return leg until tomorrow at *the alloted time*
It's obviously up to you if you want to wait and book it all together, but there are only so many seats at the cheaper price so you'd be taking a risk if you did wait.
ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT THING...
Don't try and book your whole journey on the supersaver section IF you're getting on the train from an airport. Supersaver prices are only available on allotted routes and their booking system won't split your journey to save you money, it'll just try and charge you full whack for the whole thing. The 'standard' price will be available on the day, so just pay the extra on the day for the extra bit and then use your city-city supersaver ticket for the rest at the cheaper price.
HOW TO DO IT....
Because it is bloody confusing and took me while to work it out.
www.sbb.chGo to the top of the screen and click 'en', unless you can speak German. If you can, mein gallenblasse est swallen today, I thought you might like to know.
Once you can read it, hover over the section that says 'travelcards and tickets', then hover over the 'tickets for Switzerland' category and click on 'supersaver tickets'. The rest is as I've already said. MAKE SURE THE HALF PRICE 'CONCESSIONS' BOX TO THE RIGHT OF THE NAMES IS UNCHECKED......
You owe me a Toblerone if this post helps.
