i understand what you're saying, but really both are tragic in their own way.  you really shouldn't compare tragedies as though they were top trumps, nor tell people how they ought to grieve.  not a debate for today anyway.

is right. two completely separate stories/issues, nothing to be gained at all to compare them or people's reaction to them.

R.I.P Amy.

Brain Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain all died at 27…

Sad, sad news, can't say it is a surprise but it is still a waste of talent. Also for all of those people full of judgement of her, let's remember she too has family, it has just been a very sad couple of days all round.

I know it might make me sound callous, but I'm struggling to muster up any sympathy for her.

She was a terrific singer and hugely talented, but this story has been coming for years now.
Been on the cards for ages.

The whole Norway story has put this sort of story in perspective. 98 people, mainly kids now dead because of one crazy motherfucker is a tragedy.
A talented singer dead through their own recklessness after many years and many warnings is just a stupid waste.
And no more.

Very true.

Hello all,

Just for clarification, this is a topic about the death of Amy Winehouse. For those wanting to discuss the appalling tragedy in Norway please click here

For those who've attempted to turn this into a competition between the two, there is no open topic for this type of discussion. And with good reason.

Cheers.

Threw away a great life for no life

probably not that simple though. her great life, or her great talent, probably was in no small part inspired by her personal demons. if she had a normal, well adjusted life, her music wouldn't have been a patch on what it was.

Was going to say the same thing. Didn't she have a disrupted family life when she was younger? It's not always as simple as 'she took drugs, tough, she knew what she was doing'. Sadly, the reason she took them and the reasons she did what she did may have been planted a long time ago in her family life.

Maybe people should wait until the cause of death is known before passing comment on the rights and wrongs, what happened to Heath Ledger springs to mind.

Could of been suicide, could of been accidental O.D, could of fallen over and hit her head, so until its known lay off a bit with the judgements.

On any other day Amy's death would have recieved an outpouring of sympathy for a life full of potential, lost...today it is is seen in context of life full or potential brutally wrenched away.

What is to be taken from today should be that what we have is precious, Amy for whatever reasons treated it far too casually, those other kids didnt get the option and I think that what will make people feel more sour to her death.

A sad day allround , for those whose Amys music meant a lot...but for the majority it will be hard not the look a the options she was presented in life and think of those Norwegian kids and think....

Tonight you must think of the parents of those Norwegian kids and Amys... the pain they must be going through...and whilst this thead may matter not one jot to the scheme of things....lets show a bit of decent human compasion eh?

There was another BBC performance that she did, 4 or 5 years ago it would have been now I think, can't remember what it was called, but that was a fantastic performance. It was some series that they did for a short while with artists playing live for the BBC, can't remember what it was called.

Well she started playing her own songs at 14 and was spotted as a vocalist on someone elses record. So Im not sure about all that.

Not every case is that way. She was a very normal person at the start of her career, I remember watching her 1st appearance on never mind the buzzcocks with Lamaar and then her 2nd, where Amstel was ripping the piss out of her (Bet he feels a million dollars about now). Like two different people. Reckon the back to black album brought fame she maybe couldnt deal with
