Way I see it he was taken out of the team after that Blackburn game and they've spent time with him and they feel he's ready now.  Can't believe the attitude of some people on here.

They are only going on what previous evidence is available. It's a huge gamble, make no mistake.

It's not like giving him 20 mins against West Brom last week is it?

I wish him well.

How many games has Glen Johnson missed for us through injury/illness?! It has to be a huge percentage compared to our other players... We desperately need a second choice right back with a similar playing style

Flanagan and Cissokho are no wing backs so we are pretty much playing a 5-3-2 which seems likes overkill?! This selection is even more baffling than the 4 centre back decision against Southampton.

Playing Flanno here makes no sense whatsoever.  You could play Hendo, you can move Toure across.  Theres other options.  I hope it works out but hes very rash.

Rest as expected.  Be huge if we do pull this off.  No greater incentive than going 1st.

Okay, I rest my case. Won't comment on Flanagan until after the game. All these people currently being so defensive will probably crucify Rodgers if he plays poorly.

Initially surprised, still apprehensive, but increasingly confident in the decision to start Flanagan over a number of other options. We've obviously worked on the three at the back system for this game and with the late pull out by Johnson, it makes sense to stick with it and leave the midfield alone. Kelly was awful when he came on against west brom while Flanagan has arguably a better engine, will get up and down the pitch all game and help keep the width on a wide pitch, and has experience of being chucked in the team at the emirates and doing well. He must be impressing in training too. Hope he grabs this opportunity

Makes a lot of sense to be fair. Can see a lot of possession for our defence and midfield passing it carefully and then every now and now again trying to get Sturridge and Suarez bearing down on their defence. Henderson will be key in nicking it away and playing it simple when Arsenal do have it.

Only concern for me is Ozil, time and again players in the same mould as him seem to hurt us deeply.

Pretty sure it was Arsenal? Kenny was having a laugh with him to calm him down as well, before sending him on..

Flanno's gonna have a stormer. 40 minutes from a top of the table clash, which were involved in..and the majority in here are too busy criticising the decision that would have left arsene scratching his head thinking wtf.

Rodgers is a fantastic coach - we've all seen him getting the best out of players like Henderson, Skrtel, and others, so its not entirely unreasonable to think he might have worked his magic on Flanagan? We won't see until the game!

I understand the Kelly vs Flanagan debate, but there would be a few on here arguing Henderson's case if Henderson' played wing back.

Admittedly it says a lot about Agger that Toure isn't moved across and Toure comes in?

Essentially playing with no wing backs and a 5-3-2. Looks like a tense day at the office, absorbing a lot of pressure and hitting them on the counter.

I hope he does to, but i don't really see what you're point is, Flannagan hasn't played a game for us all season and the last time he played for us he was horrible, so i don't blame people for being worried, doesn't mean people want to see him do badly.

Nope, of course not. I hope he is magnificent but I just can't see it. Even if he plays poorly, but we win, I'm not that bothered. But wing backs are so important to winning in this system at both ends of the pitch.

This. what the fuck is wrong with everyone shittting themselves because Flanagan is getting chance?!

Of course we'd rather have Johnson starting but Flanagan has got the nod so we should get behind him.
