reminder that he is only 20. a baby in terms of being a central midfielder. One of the hardest role in the team especially with our playing style.

that he is starting ahead of keita and ox just shows that he is already one of klopps trusted players. and surely being on the pitch with thiago and fabinho is itself an educational experience that he is soaking in.

but hey this is rawk. lets flog him off for james ward prowse ;D

He is one of my favourite players - since his youth performances.

Is he perfect? ... Sh*t, no...  Should we care? Hell, no...!!!

The JOY of being an LFC FAN... he's one of ours! (and just wait and see how amazing he'll turn out to be...)

I wouldn't want to support ANY other club...

Weird...thought he played well.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Really surprised with most comments here, thought he had a decent game. Not his best, but quite tidy. He had a couple of mistakes holding the ball too long, and dribbling himself into trouble, which the entire team this year have been guilty of from time to time (Matip, Thiago, etc), but he was much better than previous games.

If you look to the future in say 5 years times even if we did not bring any1 in other than Carvalho in mid  then Eliott  - Carvalho - jones would do for me

And probably do for the opposition as none of those are remotely holding midfielders. They are all good players, but the defence would not get much protection especially as they are players who take risks and losing the ball is inherent in that.

He’s not fully match fit yet, will take a few games to get his rhythm back

Can't believe all the comments in here trying to use him being 20 as an excuse.

He turned 21 12 days ago, he should be scoring at least a goal a game.

Not to mention he’s had to come back from a tricky eye injury and Covid which has set his progress back. He seems to be doing what Klopp is asking of him and doing a decent job of it. Hopefully he can get a few more starts in February so he can get back into more of a rhythm.

And he had to deal with a concussion right at the start of the season after getting hurt in that pre season game. So its been a very disrupted season so far for him.

Oddly, with all the injuries he's had this season, he didn't sustain anything from being repeatedly kicked in the stomach by Ronaldo.

People can say he is young and inconsistency is part of it. Fair play

However he is VERY consistent at dribbling into brick walls and failing to pass the ball off. This is not inconsistency, he does it regularly. Its his weakest part of his game and people can claim our 8s dont need to create, thats bs. They might not be the last pass before a goal but the amount of times, keita, thiago and even henderson pass a ball to someone with space who then assists the goal is huge compared to Curtis.

He dribbles into dead ends or blind alleys way too often and makes us super predictable when playing against low block teams.

I get the impression he doesn’t really dribble at all though, not as much as I would expect him to when I saw him playing in the u18-23 at least or his first Carling cup games, if he offered more penetration with his passing and dribbling at times I think he would be further along in his development, he’ll get there, and if he doesn’t a player with similarities to  Gini will always be useful to our squad.

He needs to show and do a lot lot more when given a chance, because not only does he have lots of competition this season. The competition ahead in next season is going to be even more because us signing a top midfielder next season looks certain.

Thought he was good, not excellent.  There were at least 3 times he got caught on the ball because wasn't moving it quickly enough, but he got stronger as the game went on and looked very composed at times.

He was shocking first 10, then really came alive starting with the free kick taken quickly that led to the pen for the opener. Did very well from then onwards.

He's getting there in terms of his end product. Could back himself more in the final third. Was clean through in the second half and passed.

Agree with that - especially to play the harder pass. But it's coming together nicely I think. He got caught a couple of times, but his attitude was spot on every time - chasing back, rectifying.

First 10 minutes or so they had someone loitering around him and just harassing him as soon as a pass came his way, once he got used to the pace though he was excellent at finding space, beating the press, progressing the ball and winning it back for us.

Agree wholeheartedly. He was short of minutes and early on it showed. But he grew into the game and overall, he was very good indeed. Wish he’d shot after that one-two with Mo, but it demonstrated his unselfishness.

Hehad 76 touches with completed 53 Passes for an accuracy 88.3%, completed 6 out of 6 dribble attempts. Had 4 shots(3 On goal). Had 1 Key Pass. Won 9 out of 11 Ground duels. was fouled 3 times wo fouling. Lost Possession 9 times(which not bad for MF) had an Interception and was dribbled past once. What did he do so bad?

Jeez, some midfield players get pages and pages of praise for run of the mill performances yet 21 year old Jones is getting criticised after a very good performance in a 6-0 drubbing of Leeds.

Highest number of passes from a midfielder/attacker, 4 shots, 3 on target, 6 dribbles, 1 key pass et etc.

Very good game IMO. I can understand people thinking he wasn't exceptional, he wasn't, but I can't believe people would look at his performance and not think that was very good. On the bench for the weekend and in for the Norwich FA Cup game IMO. Well done lad.

for me it was as simple as he was a little rusty and perhaps a little tentative early doors, because hes just off an injury and then missed the last 3 games just on numbers alone. Its rare as hell to see Jonsey down on confidence so it just probably seemed he was more off than he actually was. But then he grew into it and got better and better and by the second half he was rolling along just nicely.

I didnt read back but if hes having bricks thrown at him, people should grow a little patience. Kids a stunning young player.

Don’t think he started well, and gave the ball away a few times, but understandably rusty after not being in the squad for a few games.  Thought he grew into the game, and played very well in the end.  We need to remember he is still a young player, and is already at a very good level.
