Any decent gigs around New Year, and someone who knows if Ian Prowse Monday Night Club sessions in Cavern Pub takes place as usual on the 31 December? According to the calendar on The Cavern website the show will be on as usual, but I suspect the show is just filled in the calendar every Monday evening as standard.

I enjoyed that gig.  I have to admit that Olympic Swimmer were more Eddie the Eel than Thorpedo but I thought Admiral Fallow were great fun.

What did everyone else think?

And more importantly who was the pissed up RAWKite dancing like a loon at the front?

That loon collared me in the smoking area outside after and told me about 18times his (poor) son has the same name as me. I only got away when he fell off the bench we were sitting on.

I was looking about to see if I could spot anyone who I thought had the look of a Rawk mod but I didn't spot a single Nazi prison guard uniform all night.

Oh and if Olympic Swimmer were the Scottish outfit on before you're right, they had absolutely nothing about them. They had one track that got mildy interesting (sounded a bit explosions in the sky to my uneducated ear) towards the end but that was about it.

When's the new album out?  Been considering it.  Then again, I waited to hear the new Local Natives one before getting a ticket for the Kazimier and that's sold out.

Went to see Liam Fray at Academy 2 the other, was awful.  I really hate that venue, impossible to see if you're not in the first few rows.  Will be getting there early doors for Frightened Rabbit in a couple of weeks.

A lad I'm heading down with has seen tickets going for three figures on eBay. I rate him but I wouldn't pay over £25 with face value being just over a tenner.

What'd you reckon?  I enjoyed Peace and Palma Violets, their shows are a lot better on their own though.  Crowd was very limp for both of those acts.  I left after them but was told it get better for Miles Kane.  Already seen him 9 times though and don't really know Django's stuff.

I missed Peace as they were on too early for me to make it. I enjoyed Palma Violets, who clearly love The Libertines and The Clash. Kinda heard it all before, but they were alright. Miles Kane went down a storm with the crowd, but I found him a bit 'meh'. A fair few left after him, missing Django Django who took their time to get going but stormed it from Default to the end

Why did you leave half way through the gig? And why did so many others leave before the headline act? Seems odd to me

Missed these as well . The time on the ticket said 8 , got in about that time and they'd already finished ?

Thought it was a pretty decent gig overall.

The Djangos were pretty good , but something didn't seem right . Not sure if it was the sound system / acoustics , or the band adding to the songs .

Mixture of reasons.  As I said I've seen Miles more time than I care to mention, can't stand him anymore.  Re Django, never really listened to the album, only know Default.  That plus the fact I've got about 20 gigs in 30 days this month, I fancied getting home early to get some sleep in.  Ticket was free too so I didn't feel like I had an obligation to get my money's worth.

In smaller venue news, the opening of Milk's new digs on Jordan Street on Saturday night was ace. Managed to miss the burlesque woman getting her boobs out as I was deep in conversation about Bill Callahan with a mate of mine...ah well!
