Depends on other factors as well, although I would say if this is proof, they're not very good at taking advantage of it!

Depends. Performance indicators suggest they are the 6th best performing team in the country with the 2nd best results.

First of all, much appreciate all the work in this thread throughout the season.

Secondly, I though people here might appreciate this, I made a simple algorithm to determine which teams had the more difficult schedule this season (basically which teams played their opposition at the right time more often than not) and went into more detail about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/8jcsov/oc_premier_league_which_teams_had_the_most/

The teams sorted by schedule difficulty would go as:
Code: [Select]
     1  Swansea                     3.58
     2  Everton                     3.13
     3  West Ham                    3.11
     4  Newcastle                   3.11
     5  Stoke                       3.08
     6  Liverpool                   3.05
     7  Southampton                 3.03
     8  Man City                    3.03
     9  Burnley                     3.03
    10  Arsenal                     3.03
    11  Bournemouth                 2.97
    12  Chelsea                     2.95
    13  Huddersfield                2.87
    14  West Brom                   2.84
    15  Brighton                    2.79
    16  Tottenham                   2.74
    17  Leicester                   2.68
    18  Man Utd                     2.68
    19  Watford                     2.66
    20  C Palace                    2.61

So Swansea would have had the most difficult schedule, while Crystal Palace the easiest.

First of all thanks to all who post in this great thread every season.

Secondly is this table why hairy hands got the Bitters points total and finishing position so badly wrong?
This Klopp fella, hes not bad is he?

This doesn't make too much sense.

1) It's a very small amount of data.
2) The data is self-reflexive; it tries to be both the cause and effect. Of course Watford was most difficult to play when they won.
What has the universe got to do with it? You're here in Brooklyn! Brooklyn is not expanding!

While I agree on 1) (not much I can do about that, it is what it is), I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 2). It's using the results in the opponents matches to determine how difficult of an opponent they were around the time the teams played each other. That's why I looked at their form over 5 matches, not just at the one particular match (actually considered using a wider span, but that would be too vague in my opinion).

Am I right in thinking that you ignored the result of the game itself, and only looked at the games around it? I think that's what telekon might have been getting at.

Nope, took the 2 games before and after AND the game in question. Whether it would be better to ignore the result of that match is an interesting idea, never really thought about it.

So I guess we need to be close to that 90 point line to have a chance of winning the league this time?

I remember Ferguson used to say you couldn't afford to lose more than five games in a season if you wanted to win the league.  These days I'd say you can't afford to lose more than three and draw more than six to be in with a shout of top two.

On track for 114 points and 148 goals

Nah, I reckon we'll finish 4th, 75 points, 84 goals. Fancy a good cup run though.

I think we’ll be lucky to get 4th myself.
