We look pretty direct and fast paced (considering CMs). That 5 man middle they seem to be setting up with could cause us problems

Johnson with a fantastic run, crosses for Torres who misses.

Can't shake the feeling an in-form/fitness Torres would've slammed it in the back (and yes, that is most definitely what she said)

Slow build up, Konchesky finds Jehovanovic who turns on the defender, that really was Messi-esque. Is fouled by Larsson who clearly stops him going forward ref says play on and it fades out.

Looked like a penalty to me, Poulsen (I think) taking down a Brummie on the edge of the area. Ref waves play on.

Torres brings down someone from behind, lucky to escape a card. Who says we never get luck from referees?

Birmingham dropping deeper, as I say that Skrtel's pass misses both Lucas and Poulsen, Jerome on the counter but it comes to nothing. Maxi pushed to the ground but gets nothing.

Torres with a really shitty tackle. Lucky to not get a card really. Gerrard is bleeding from the head

Fuck me sideways, brilliant brilliant save from Pepe Fucking Reina. Think Gordon Banks against Pele, long ball to the Brum striker, headed downwards to Pepe's right and he just flings himself down and tips the ball over the bar. Best keeper in the world bar none.

Lucas gets fucked again, this time by their number twelve. Lucas is furious, he's howling at the ref. No card though, and the creative Brum fans start up a rendition of Same Old Scousers, always cheating.

Free-kick results in a corner. Fuck's sake, Gerrard takes it. Short to Johnson, who loses the ball. Lucas boots it in the box and Maxi tries a bicycle kick but it doesn't come off.

Our wingers are highly ineffective so far, and as I say that Maxi is kicked down. And you guessed it, nothing given.

Maxi gets fouled yet again, but no card.

Jova linking up with the Konch on the left. Passes to Lucas, but he gives the ball away. Birmingham start an attack down the centre, sprays it wide to right. Beautiful cross but Reina comes off his line and punches clear.

Pool counterattack like a flood. Jova on the left crosses into the box, Torres tries to get a head to the ball but it falls to Gerrard. He takes a touch and shoots, but is blocked.

The ball's launched back into the box and Torres goes down. No penalty.

Christ while I was typing Birmingham launch yet another attack. Cross from right sails in and they get a free header at point blank range. Reina makes another fucking world class fucking brilliant fucking save and yes, that warranted all the swear words.

Corner is cleared.
