When was the last time Meireles played behind the striker?

Dire.

Dominated and bossed by Birmingam in the 1st half.
Two amazing Gordon Banks v Pele header type saves by Reina in the 1st half.
Some shocking marking by us on crosses.
Midfield of Poulsen and Lucas is absolutely woeful and completely devoid of creativity, drive and energy. Poulsen's passing makes Salif Diao look like Zidane and Pele rolled into one.
No one to put their foot on the ball and knocked it around.
We were better in the 2nd half when Birmingham sat back, but again, such little creativity.
We played down to their level and looked like a mid table team. Scuffle city.

Hogdson's team setup and tactics are so negative. Can't wait for Cole to come back and Mireles to start.

Lacklustre for 75 mins (lucky not to have conceded up to that point). Looked a completely different side after replacing Lucas with Meireles. Much better movement and players finding space. Very encouraging that.

Hopefully Meireles will start the next game and get himself in proximity to Torres, otherwise Nandos talents will continue to go wasted. No good him coming out wide for the ball if no midfielders occupy the spaces he creates.

Gained a point today. Birmingham were always going to be difficult to beat at home, but it was just appalling seeing us just lie down and take it. It was like the team only woke up at the 75th minute.

Reina aside.

Dominated by City, WBA, Birmingham and Man Utd next, can't wait.

Very disappointed

Terrible. Roy's looking out of depth. The positive is that Konchesky looks solid and Mereiles showed promise when he came on. No more of this Lucas-Poulsen or anything like that please.

I don't know why Roy waited so late to make a change.

Good cameo from Raul, he is probably the only reason I am looking forward to the next game at this moment in time.

I thought Konchesky had a solid debut too. Shame about the injury, I hope he's not out for too long.

Still early in the season and the team are gelling but in all honesty we could have got trounced by Birmingham today.  Thought Konchesky had a solid debut and Reina was out of this world.  Can see us really getting battered by better teams if we dont improve quick.

I would of taken the point before kick off even though I would have loved the win. we need to scrap this 2 defensive midfield players asap and get Gerrard in there every game.

I was really really disappointed by Maxi today. I thought he really had a pretty poor game. I would absolutely LOVE to see either Pacheco or Babel starting there, Maxi offered absolutely nothing today. He looked afraid to take a man on, did he even put in 1 ball the whole match? He was really really poor today.

MotM: Pepe by a landslide. HE earned us a point today.

Back 4: Johnson did well going forward and made an impact on the attack. Konchesky looked very solid in his debut and Danny Agger played a good ball into the box in his short time on the field. Skrtel's marking off crosses was horrid and he did not really impress at all. Carra was scary to watch. His lack of pace is troublesome and despite the analysts raving about his caginess and craftiness, his old legs and gambling will end up hurting us sometime this season.

Midfield: Lucas was pressured all game and struggled to adapt. He was caught in possession too many times. Poulsen, in my opinion, didn't have much positive effect on the game. In fact I think he hampered the attack with his poor passing. Maxi was poor in the first half, but I think he did much better in the second half especially after Meireles came in. Jova was a breath of fresh air. Unlike other games he was strong in possession and looked to push forward. He created plenty of opportunities and really showed me something today. I really think Meireles made an impact in his short time on the field. He was constantly on the move and for the last 10 minutes of the game Liverpool actually played something that resembled cohesive fooball. Gerrard didn't play too well in the first half. That can be attributed to lack of service and lack of effort. It didn't seem like he wanted to put his stamp on the game. The second half was much better. Aside from the regular long range efforts he played some good balls into the box and showed more aggressiveness and willingness to push forward with the ball.

Torres: His first touch left much to be desired. He wiffed on a good ball by Johnson and struggled in his hold-up play. His one run late in the second half showed why Roy kept him on as he showed good control and speed. All that was missing was a good finishing.
YNWA: We don't wear it on an armband, we wear it on our hearts...

Nothing there to get excited about, thought Roy could have made a change earlier than he did, but it was the change I was hoping for with Gerrard dropping to centre midfield, and I would have given Babel a run for 15 or 20 Min's for Maxi or Jova. We never looked like scoring thank god Pepe got his jitters out of his system with Spain midweek today he was man of match. Still no different from last season, but I'm not ready to pass judgement on this side or Roy's tactics yet its much to soon for that.
If my assistant had not signalled a goal, I would have given a penalty and sent off goalkeeper Patr Cheh. he beeped me to signal the foul. The noise from the crowd  stopped me hearing it, I have been involved at places like Barcelona, Ibrox, Old Trafford, Arsenal, but I've never in my life been involved in such an atmosphere. IT WAS INCREDIBLE

All credit to reina.Konchesky had a really solid debut.I hope it is nothing serious(his injury).
We were lucky to escape with a point. We should never play lucas and poulsen together. After meireles came on,we looked much better.
Jova was very good with this trickery, but he delays his pass too much.

There has to be a way to fit meireles and cole into this team.
Play Cole on the right, maxi wasn't brilliant, but had some good moments. Poulsen with Mereiles, and Gerrard behind Torres.
Konchesky had a good game.

Well we went there and tried not to lose, I suppose we managed it, but shouldn't we at least be trying for a win against the likes of Birmingham?....

Poulson and Lucas in midfield is a combination I fear we will see more of in the future.

The real worrying thing is that we hardly had possession. That used to be our strength, even when we were not scoring. But Birmingham City got the better of us.

Things are getting worse :(

Wanting to stay positive after another uninspiring performance so will say Konchesky had a decent debut and Jovanovic was good in spells aswell and obviously Pepe was our best player which is pretty sad really when your keeper is your best player , tried to stay positive but am affraid if we continue like this we will be midtable as we are certainley playing that way imho .

Can't believe Jopva stayed on the pitch for the full 90. he's dogshit. Doesn't offer us anything, I was shouting for Babel or Young Dani to get on in his place.

If we insist on playing then please play him on the right where he can cut in and shoot.

The result was decent due to Birmingham being a good team and them playing much better today.

The entire midfield, along with Torres and Johnson were awful. Hopefully we never see Poulsen and Lucas in central midfield together again. As for our wingers, Jovanovic looks completely average.

At least Konchesky and Merieles looked ok though.

Awful. Playing for a point away from home shows Roy's philosophy.

Little point commenting as this will multiple with peoples irritation and so it should. Worrying signs. It's going to be a long long season.

And no doubt Roy will shortly trot out to tell us what a great point this is.

Entertaining game, but terrible play and a misery inducing result.

If not for Pepe Reina and his saves worthy of a dozen highlight reels, we would have been dead in the water. Hardly had any significant shots on goal. We were kicked around all game and had absolutely no answer to Birmingham's aerial attacks.

All in all, same old Liverpool. We're going nowhere fast, and Birmingham were comfortably better than us.

Where was the entertainment exactly ? i suffered throughout the entire game. We looked like nothing.

It was like watching steam rise up off a dog's turd.  Appalling performances from the players and the manager.  I don't want to repeat what I said last game and the ones before that.  There seems to be no inclination to change.  Fucked off.
Quote from: Dion Fanning

The chants for Kenny Dalglish that were heard again on Wednesday do not necessarily mean that the fans see him as the saviour. This is not Newcastle, longing for the return of Kevin Keegan. I didn't think it was that bad. We had more shots on target and 50-50 possession. No doubt that Reina is MOM. Birmingham away is never really easy. We did ok. Also I really like Jovanovic, he has a few things to work on, but I get really excited when he gets the ball and starts running.

Well at least a point against a team which is very difficult to beat at home...

Nevertheless we lacked creativity....

We looked better when Meireles came on - he played good passes and was present... Altough I would have taken Poulson off since Lucs was better than him and is not that slow in his movement....

Next week we have Cole back and Meireles will have settled in even more....

Hope Konchesky's injury is not that bad - he had a solid debut...

Maxi and Jovanovic were quiet most of the game and Maxi only came to life in the last 10mins...

Well as already said, at least a point against a difficult team. Now we have one week to adjust for the Manu game and more possibilities (player wise) available...

Man of the match: Reina or Carra
