Also very late to the party, sorry. I expect my votes are too late, never mind. I've not been posting about music stuff here for a while but there was some great stuff in 2023...

In approximate order of preference:

1.BC Camplight - The Last Rotation Of Earth
2.King Creosote - I DES
3.Nation of Language - Strange Disciple
4.OXN - CYRM
5.Squid - O Monolith
6.Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
7.Goat - Medicine
8.Lankum - False Lankum
9.PJ Harvey - I Inside the Old Year Dying
10.WITCH - Zango

The Peter Gabriel one passed me by. I shall check it out.

I see a few people have mentioned Young Fathers. Damn, forgot about them - thought the album came out in 2022. It is great. There are probably others I've forgotten too.

I can tell you now that Warmduscher are already my top contenders for 2024 based on the one single, Love Strong, that came out in 2023 ahead of the forthcoming album. Jane Weaver and Fat White Family are also likely to be near the top of my 2024 list. And probably Cast based on what I've heard of their new one already.

Oxn (Best album recorded by a Lankum member last year - I'll die on that hill)

No arguments from me on that one. Cyrm is great, especially the mad Scott Walker cover.

Thanks for the PM but to my shame I don’t think I’ve listened to enough new music this year to put forward a list. Probably for the best!

1.BC Camplight - The Last Rotation Of Earth

Dang, I've been really off with new music this year, didn't even know he had a new one out!
What has the universe got to do with it? You're here in Brooklyn! Brooklyn is not expanding!

Didn't think this year was particularly good, especially not when looking at the albums released in the 5-6 years or so prior.
Thanks a lot jack for putting it together!
Here's hoping 2024 will be a great one!

Forgot to post my own as usual (I'm also the person who manages to post pre-match previews but forgets to enter the prediction competition!)...

Best-manned for my brother, moved house, and started a new job this year - feel like I've not particularly soundtracked it to much new music, but here are a few bits I did enjoy:

  • History Books - The Gaslight Anthem
  • Weathervanes - Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit
  • The Record - Boygenius
  • The Ballad of Darren - Blur
  • Endless Affair - Ailbhe Reddy
  • Sea of Mirrors - The Coral
  • Angel Numbers - Hamish Hawk
  • Big Talk - Jared Dickinson
  • Where the Light Goes - Matchbox Twenty

And for the sake of transparency, I'll add that two of mine got a single position bump within (not into) the top ten.

Will be hoping to pay much better attention to releases in 2024!

Cheers Jack! And I managed not to get into any arguments this year. Maybe I'm mellowing in my old age...maybe it's Maybelline.

Posts of the year are Sam's best album ones - always so much to dig into - brilliant
Too old and forgetful to do my own list but I liked the Greg Foat too, Nabihah Iqbal, Billy Woods, Lankum, Julie Byrne, Rhys Langston & Pioneer 11, Roisin Murphy all did stuff that I heard and liked

Think I listened to Can - Live in Stuttgart '75 the most

Cheers, glad someone read it  ;D

PS New Can live album out soon: https://www.folkradio.co.uk/2024/01/new-can-live-series-announced-can-live-in-paris-1973/

First one with Damo Suzuki on vocals in this series, looking forward to that.

I haven't listened to the Sufjan Stevens one yet. I quite like him but I'm still cringing at the 'you checked your texts while I masturbated' lyric and that's 9 years old now.

In voice of Mrs Merton " So Telekon why are those attractive women LP covers your top three Albums?"

Hey, I have no bias, if there were three handsome men I could go for that.  ;D

Jack thanks for putting this together for us all.

Love being introduced to new music through RAWK and although I may not pick up on something during the year these polls make me go back where I usually find another favourite.
And all the world is football shaped, It's just for me to kick in space. And I can see, hear, smell, touch, taste.

Thanks to Jack and everyone who put their lists together.

I say this every year but I use this annual thread a lot to discover new (to me) music - albeit a year behind the times.

Chromatics - Kill for Love is still on regular play in my house thanks to this thread.

Cheers.
