Why has Levy relinquished the role in the first place? Or is it a rotating position?

Having anyone within Man City in there is like inviting a shark into a kids' swimming pool. I guess the ship sailed when PSG/Qatar took control.

Another nail in football's coffin

In other words ‘ we’ve taken a bung and look forward to receiving many more, so any token regulator will have no powers of regulation’ I think that about sums it up.

I'm sorry, but the ESL option is looking more and more attractive. The shark analogy you use is absolutely accurate, although PSG's crocodile has been in situ for a while.

How is an independent regulator  having the authority to apply/impose sanctions viewed as an unnecessary burden when virtually every other industry regulator possesses such powers?

I think we have to face the fact that the sportswashing regimes now own the game. I’ve no doubt that they are telling the government what they can and cannot do in regards to football regulation under threat of affecting the despots investment in the uk.

The only solution now is an ESL with the despots excluded.

The result from the City case may be the final straw. The continental teams are already signalling their intent to break away. They just need big a few big dominoes from the EPL. The potential additional income would also help these clubs compete more directly with the Saudi league.

Always my worry in the Man City issue is that the Premier League are basically saying in charging that the govt of the UAE has committed fraudulent acts .
Given the amount of investment the sports washers rulers have made in the UK I’m absolutely convinced that UK govt pressure will be on the Premier League to drop their investigation as UK govt doywant to lose friendly relations with UAE.
The premier league will go for an easier target such as Everton.

Good luck with trying to persuade the foreign owners of the PL clubs that they should care about the UK's relationship with UAE.

The foreign owners of the PL clubs didn’t want Saudi to buy Newcastle and self sponsor themselves.

He's lucky he's a talented footballer, with tens of millions in his bank account because he wouldn't have one if he wasn't.

Oh, these sour times.

Been saying for a while, football only has one or two seasons left as a semi-competitive sport before it is completely finished. The despots have won. The only chance to save the game is the Abu Dhabi FC premier league case. If they are not punished severely, then they will double down on their cheating as will the Saudis and whatever other despots buy a club. That will be the signal for me, and many others to call it a day.

That aside, within Norway and his hometown (near Stavanger, not Leeds), he's well known for being an arrogant gobshite.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2023/sep/07/premier-league-clubs-call-to-block-nation-state-ownership
"The government said its consultation process had revealed support for an “ethics and integrity” component within any owners’ and directors’ test (ODT) and that “some stakeholders suggest that the ODTs should limit state ownership”."

Well, blimey! Who woulda thunk it, huh? I'm such a dum-dum!
They never teach these things in Governance-school.

Why would any punishment of a football club be ‘straying into foreign policy’?
I suppose it's cause these are nation-states so diplomacy is needed, but they brought it on themselves. Exactly the reason why City won't face consequences,
Sort it out! Make it law, then provide ultimatums and a grace period. Laws change.

The same self awareness as their chairman days after the CL final who claimed they have the best commercial dept in Football when they have 9 companies under the umbrella of the countries investment fund (Mubadala) that he's also on the board member of. ::)

A picture of a medical procedure you have before you sign for the club to brainwash you into everything the club does is above aboard.

But City HAD to cheat to catch up to the elite clubs. It’s not fair that Saudi are now starting to spend state funds on football aswell.

Just checked their website and still over 1,700 tickets for sale. £30 for and adult and £10 for u18 and they still can't shift them.
