Graffiti
« on: February 5, 2006, 11:19:16 pm »
Just got back from Barcelona, where there was loads of really good graffiti. Thought I'd start this thread so that when people see especially artistic or amusing graffiti, they can take a quick picture and post it here to share the wealth.

My two favourites from this weekend are attached below, one of them just being quite nice artwork, and the other just being completely random.

Incidentally, the funniest graffiti I ever saw was daubed in green paint in 2 foot letters on the front of Birkenhead Library a couple of years ago:

NAT CARSON HAS MONGY KIDS.

Genius.  :D

My most remembered graffiti was in Stanley Park, near the gap turning onto Anfield Road which said 'All Away Fans Die'.........tickled me everytime we saw it.

Please don't post back about fans dying, etc.......... don't mean it like that.

That one was on a toilet wall in Girona airport. Really made me laugh.

"Liverpool Champions yet again"

was a vintage piece. on a substation, on Wood end avenue i think? between Speke and Hunt Cross. I always vowed I'd 'restore it " when we won the league again.
It would be worth getting arrested.

All over student pub bogs was "Hunt Bromley Got Ringo".

Could never work it out - thought it was something rude for years.

Only discovered what it was years later in a totally random way.

For two points - anyone else able to work it out?

Top Work.

Kid comes running round the corner shouting

"Hunt Bromley got Ringo". Classic.

Odd graffiti for south Yorkshire bogs though.

According to some graffiti on Hawthorne Road there is a chap called "pancake" who is allegedly a "grass". No idea of the source of such information and how reliable it is though.

I actually found myself being sued by the advertising firm Moore-O'Ferrell after I'd sprayed a graffito onto one of their hoardings.

It was for "Monsters Of Rock"... and I'd sprayed "in church hall in wet".

really? isn't graffiti always art?.  or can art not be graffiti when it has assumed status from the art elite? discuss

Barcelona does have a quite a problem with grafitti but some of it is really good. I snapped these two on the back of a market stall in La Boqueria. They were just outside my mate's front door.

That stencil posted earlier on is by Banksy. His site is worth a visit:

I couldn't agree more.

But, there are genuine people out there using street art as a political tool, not just packaging half-baked philosophies for a bunch of guardian reading Nathan Barleys, whose only idea of radicalism is getting 'one-up' one of their shit-head friends in skating shoes who've never skated, buy buying a pre-framed Banksy print from POW.
