:no Henry. So sick of seeing all this diving, no need for it at all. If he'd even played well I might not mind as much.

On a lighter note,

If we get either one of the two right wingers that ended the game tonight, I'd be happy.

Particularly if it was the one who played in the blue shirt...

Other than Ribery tonight, the other player who was brilliant for France was Sagnol, going forward and in defence.  In fact, he has been almost flawless in every every game.  Excellent player.

Henry WAS fouled by Puyol. Henry went down clutching his face in an attempt to get Puyol sent off, but that doesn't change the fact it was a stone wall free kick.

Exactly. Anyways, that was a routine free kick that Spain had to defend, 9 times out of 10 they would have cleared it but they had a lapse in concentration. Only have themselves to blame.

Heres what wikipedia said:

"Franck Ribéry (born April 1, 1983, in Boulogne-sur-Mer) is a French football player who currently plays for Olympique Marseille either as an attacking midfielder or a lethal left or right-sided winger. At an early age he was involved in a car crash that resulted in a scar on the right side of his face."

I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

Fuck's sake.

It's half tempting lending the Spaniards Rafa for the duration of every international tournament, provided we get any player we want for half the going rate.

Do you tell your mates when you toss a coin and get it right Mark?  :P

My mates? No. Kaizer?

Domenech does it again, dropping Trezeguet in a match they need to score!

With another coach France could have been contenders, but Domenech is even worse than Svennis and France will pay the price.

Maybe ;)

Had to wonder about the Villa substitution myself. But don't think that Spain played that poorly (except for some ill-timed passes), it's just that France outplayed them.
And for those who've argued otherwise: France is not a shite side. Are you telling me Zidane, Vieira, Ribéry and Trézéguet couldn't play in the Premiership? And don't Henry, Gallas, Makélélé, Silvestre and Saha already play there, and quite well, too?
I thought this was one of the better matches in the knock-out phases so far. Up there with Mexico- Argentina. Well in to the French, though I was hoping our Redmen would shine and carry their team into the quarters.

I thought Villa should've come off for Garica, whos movement is exceptional. The Bobby Charlton* substitution was Raul coming off, in that withdrawing Raul enabled the French midfield to move much further forward & support their 'lone' striker. With that they were able to get runners beyond Henry. That for me swung the balance of the game.

[* - Bobby Charlton's last game for Engerland was against Germany in Mexico '70. They were 2-0 up when he left the field. They lost 3-2, after Beckenbauer was allowed the freedom to move forward & dictate the game. That's for those that didn't know.]

sorry em, couldnt even go back and delete that post :D

so dissapointed with spain, they seemed to freeze ever so slightly after they scored but credit to france they really upped thier game tonight afte a  lo of(deserved) stick over the first few games. got lucky with the second goal, and i'm not even talking about the free kick. that in itself was a bit sily by puyol but henry really made a meal of it. no need for puyol to go near him in first place though.

should be an interesting rematch now in the quarters for them and brazil.

With a slightly clearer head, I can at least try to make a bit more sense of this utter crap.

Once again we froze the moment pressure was on.  An attacking line up was fielded, but was employed far too cautiously.  We really should have finished them off in the first half, when we had the better of the proceedings.  I think that the late first half equalizer was especially damaging.

Aragones' second half substitutions were somewhat puzzling, very impatient, and greatly decreased our scoring chances.  France was allowed to alter our style of play far too much in the second half.

And yet, despite all that, despite the fact that we were not playing well, the score was only 1-1 and we still had as much a chance of winning as the French.  I don't want to take anything away from the other players, as they played well enough (in the case of Ribery and Sagnol extremely well) but ultimately, the game was swung by a dive from that disgraceful c*nt Henry.  I'm not going to say that 'the French' are cheating bastards, but Henry certainly is.  And he didn't do a damn thing all game except get caught offsides either.

Robots don't say ye.

Watched the incident again.

Joaquin sells Fabregas short. Then Ribery picks up the loose ball and sends a ball wide for Henry to chase. Puyol cuts in front of Henry  as they both go for the ball and uses his upper arm to shield Henry away. Grazing Henry in the chest.

Now at this point one could deem obstruction. But rarely if ever is that called for what happened.

Henry tumbles down like a sack of spuds and clutches his face. Ref immediately runs towards both players grabbing for his card.

We know what happens next. Zidane sends in free kick to the box..all the players react. Alonso jumps and he heads the ball back towards the back post.  Vieria heads the ball goalward and it goes off  Sergio Ramos' inside left leg  as he jumps to clear and into the net.

Shame...

but that's football..
