No need to worry about Suarez - definitely not....
« on: July 19, 2011, 08:58:52 pm »
From Sporting Life (apologies if already posted)

Liverpool fear Luis Suarez may not be available for the start of the new season because of his Copa America commitments.

The 24-year-old has played a key role in Uruguay's run to the Copa America semi-finals but his country's unexpected success could now delay his return to Liverpool for pre-season training.

Should Uruguay go all the way in the Copa America it would leave Suzarez with only a three-week break before the start of the new Premier League campaign next month.

Liverpool coach Steve Clarke has insisted the club are prepared for any late arrivals, of the belief the size of their squad is sufficient to cope.

"Now in football you just have to accept that different countries and different continents have different have their own tournaments and their own times," he said.

"It's up to the boys to go there and do their best for their countries.

"When they come back we'll assess them fitness wise, physically and mentally, then we'll decide how we fit them into our training schedule.

"If they are ready to start the season, fine. But if they need a bit of time to recover, that's why you have a big squad. It will give other people a chance."

It does highlight a need for a new striker possibly.

I am sure we can play with Carroll up front and Downing and Kuyt flanking him though.

Didn't we already know this, pretty sure it was mentioned before the tournament started about him and Lucas.

Heard they have a contract-manifested right to 4 weeks off.

Think Luis is a good sport though. He'll probably be back by Sunderland.

We now have a squad that can cope with Suarez needing a week extra.

Hope 4 weeks is long enough with Arsenal coming up on the 2nd game of the season though.

Who cares, it's not like he's gonna be out till Christmas. We got a strong enough squad to cope for a match or three. Let the kid have a beer and take it easy.

Pre-season is all about getting fit. Suarez will not need that preperation time due to his involvement in the Copa America. 3 weeks will be enough rest time.

Come on mate, that headline is misleading at best. Like he would worry for [about] Liverpool.

And why not post this in his forum instead?

I'm not bringing anything new to the discussion, and I mostly feel more annoyance towards people who shout "WFT why new topic" etc, but this one surely doesn't deserve a thread.

No drama's here - we have Ngog to play for us until the last day of the transfer window where he gets sold for 7mill to West Brom, and then Suarez can pick up the slack after a nice 4 week break.

EDIT: In all seriousness, we only have 3 league games before the end of August, and I am sure we can do without him until then ffs. Give him plenty of time to rest, and bring him back after the international break for the league match on the 10th Sept.

As far as I know, Suarez is known for his commitment to his club after travelling to South America. When he was at Ajax, he would never miss a weekend game after playing for Uruguay during the midweek. I reckon he will be desperate to play and won't take that much time off.

This is a good worry to have - a player who has been extremely successful and overachieved with his country will be coming back buzzing with confidence. This feeling is even stronger for South American players who value the Copa and the Olympics more than others.

Yep.

If it were up to him, he'd probably take one week of complete relaxation, one week of light training, and then one week of full training, and be ready for Sunderland.

Or something like that.

didnt he have a nice 9 week/game break/ban near december time, have they taken that into account?
if you wanna be the best you gotta beat the best

I'll make two predictions of this...Carroll won't score 3 PL goals total for the rest of the year and we won't score 5 against any team all year.  We might still get CL football without either happening.
