One film I was a little disappointed with was 'Scarecrow' with him and Al Pacino. It was not available for years nor online. I think the excitement of those two in a film together got the juices flowing, but when I finally got to watch the film, it was disappointing.

I always liked the two French Connection films and The Conversation.
My favourite line though was in Enemy of the State:
"You're kind of a jerk aint yer?"
"I know Liverpool fans care more about their club's success than the national team." Rafael Benitez

"Still we've had the hard times too - one year we finished second." Bob Paisley

Can't believe he hasn't done any acting for 10 years?
Doesn't seem that long....he's just one of those actors, such a recognizable face.
He's not one of my favourites at all but he's certainly been in some movies.

Hell of an actor. The first thing I remember seeing him in was Bonnie and Clyde which I think was in '68.

Loved him in the Poseidon Adventure, my first real exposure to him.  Some brilliant performances in that film.

He's really good in All Night Long, which is worth watching if only for his performance as a middle-class, middle age man who's life begins to unravel after he quits his job.

The Conversation …. Enemy of the State

I just watched those back to back  - I never knew it was the same character.
Some whiz on YouTube should splice all his scenes together  - it would be a great little movie for the spy geeks. He’s a truly great actor.

and me

I think I'd have hackman down as one of - if not THE - best hollywood actors of all time. especially when you factor in the longevity, taking on varied roles and making so many good films where he's top class in them

Yes - sorry folks  ;D    I reckon he could totally come out of retirement to do the third Conversation film, he said he'd only do it in his own house with a couple of other people there and they can't make a mess  ;D

Definitely in my top 10 greatest ever combined Actors/Actresses list.

Has he ever done a bad film, I cannot think of one.

Had a natural screen presence that most Actors dream of having.

Glad he's still alive, was fearing the worst when I saw this thread.

93 and still going strong!!!

Stole every movie he was ever in.  Unbelievable believability.

He's far gone, I believe, to ever act again.

I loved Harry Zinn in Get Shorty.

I like to watch “The Quick and the Dead” every now and then. It’s such fun. Hackman steal the show as the baddie.

incredible in Crimson Tide opposite Denzel. highly recommend if you haven't seen it, a 90s action/thriller classic!
Loving Everton's business this summer. Here's an early call - they finish above Liverpool this season.

Just promoted me to look up opinions on his best roles and made me realise there’s a few of his I haven’t seen. But one I have, which didn’t feature is Mississippi Burning where I think he’s absolutely brilliant.

His performance in Enemy Of The State totally elevates a pretty meandering spy film into a really entertaining spy film.

There’s quite a few films like that actually, The Quick & The Dead being another, off the top of my head.

Big fan of 90s thrillers like that, before tech really started dominating thriller films, Ronin is another top low tech style thriller, De Niro imperious as ever (naturally), think it might have been Frankenheimers last film.

The Conversation would probably make my top five films of all time, he's just fantastic in it.  One film people often overlook his performance in is Bonnie And Clyde, I'm not a massive fan of the film, but he's the best thing about it.  Then there's Scarecrow, alongside Pacino, Night Moves, Roeg's Eureka is another unheralded performance of his.

For my money, one of, if not THE best American actor of all time.

He certainly is - its a fantastic movie all round.

He's brilliant in everything he's in.  Even lesser quality movies like when he hammed it up as Lex Luthor in the Superman films, he just has a great screen presence about him.

Personal favourite is the sheriff in Unforgiven. Just brilliant. But also enjoyed him in BAT 21 and a dozen other movies.

Proper actor him.
