I absolutely love cheese, tend to get a few different types to eat after a roast on a Sunday
A few which are a little unusual (but readily enough available, or at least variants of are available)
- Goats Brie - as the name suggests, are Brie made from goats cheese, same soft, creamy texture but with the slightly more acidic goats cheese.
- Cornish Yarg - midrange cheese in terms of firmness, slightly softer than cheddar with a milder flavour. If you buy it towards the start of the year it’s often wrapped in wild garlic which is amazing, otherwise it’s usuallg nettle which is also good.
Pont- Leveque- a soft, strong cheese, recognisable by its square shape. Absolutely beautiful with a strong red or a glass of port.
There is an English version of dolce latte which I buy a lot of but the name escapes me, if anyone’s interested I can find it out at the weekend when I go and buy more (I always just ask for the English dolce latte and they know what I mean)
I’d seriously suggest going to Bordeaux if you’re into cheese, when we went we managed to find a place calllex Cave du Fromage where you pay a set fee and get to pick a load of cheese from over 100 types which they have in a cave, you can then pull your own bottles of red off a rack and drink them with it, all very reasonably priced.
On that note I’m eating some cheese.
